Subject: Opera 3.62 and Opera 5.14 on same machine?

I'm on the road with my 7Book, and am staying at a hotel that offers wireless access to the Internet. I was unable to connect using the 7Book's built-in version of Opera 5.14, so on a hunch I installed Opera 3.62, and was able to connect without a hitch.

Now I notice that Opera 3.62 has taken over the softscreen icon formerly used by the built in version. Is there any way to launch Opera 5.14 despite the fact that Opera version 3.62 is also installed?

Thanks,

Peter

Sorry, I forgot.. I am using a Revo. It is from 1991, so the batteries are a
likely suspect, and they may be a bit weak, but I think they are not THE
problem. Nor does the screen cable seem to be the cause. If I connect from
PsiWin, it returns to life.
Another possible culprit would be the lid microswitch but that seems to work
as well...

Currently my Revo is running, on mains, and it can also survive a day on
battery. However, occasionally, it suddenly loses everything in memory and on
"disk", and it refuses to start. Weird, isn't it?

Subject: The end of summer - rejoice!

Like many diehard psioneers I'm sure, I was somewhat dreading the switch back to winter time.  Depressed at the days drawing in?  Distressed at getting home in the dark??  Nope, the thought of PsiWin insisting on a full backup once my Psion had switched back to winter was that which
was filling me with trepidity!  1GB over a 115Kb/s serial link is a slooow thing...

I was slightly surprised therefore when I switched my netBook on on Sunday to find that the time was already correct.  Sure enough I realised, AlarmPlus had done what I'd forgotten it would do and automatically adjusted the settings.  I was however even more somewhat delighted this morning when I bit the bullet and decided to start the PsiWin backup.  After churning away at its analysis for a few minutes, it started backing up - and told me that it's take all of 4½ minutes to do it!  Sure enough, it just did its incremental backup as normal!  I can only assume therefore that an undocumented feature of AlarmPlus is that it adjusts the Summer Time settings in such a way that PsiWin doesn't think that the global time stamp has changed.

Excellent news!  And reason enough to justify installing AlarmPlus just before the switchover dates in future for anyone that doesn't want to use it at any other time.  :¬)

Subject: Hello, and Psion using 9300 as modem?

Hello all, another Psion user and recent 9300 user joining the list :)

I've been trying to use my 9300 as an IR modem so that I can browse the
web using my 5book when away from home.

I can get the Comms application to connect to the phone, and get repeated
random characters from it when I dial *99*#, but that's as far as I can
get. The phone does indicate that the IR modem is connected, and it starts
to connect GPRS (but doesn't seem to authenticate - my guess is that the
random characters might be the login prompt?).

Web on the Psion just says "network error" whatever I try, and doesn't
connect to the phone (going by the IR modem icon on the 9300).

Has anyone used a 9300/9500 as an IR modem, and could tell me what
settings are needed?

Cheers!

Anthony

Yes, this sounds as though it's the solution.  I do like YData's simplicity but it just doesn't seem to be able to import CSVs with the field information correctly lined up.  I did actually try a time limited trial copy of PowerData but never got around to trying out the import facities before it required registration.

Hi Max,
it's interesting, that you experienced the same problems as me with YData. I banished YData from my commi.

I also am using PowerData. The onliest difficulty is the import of 5mx-data files. As they may contain linefeeds and tabs inside the records, you can't create CSV files with linefeed and tab as delimiter. I solved the problem by the following way: set as delimiters æ and þ, create the csv file, replace tabs and linefeeds in the csv file with / or //, then replace æ and þ with tab and linefeed respectively.

Best Regards

Rolf

Subject: EPOC Install MFC Application

Does anyone know where to get the latest version of the EPOC Install MFC Application epocinst.exe?  I used to have the version that installed programs with a nice yellow EPOC logo in the top left of the PC screen but had to re-install PsiWin (2.3.3) after a brief flirt with EPOC connect (long story for another day) and found that it reverted to the old black and white logo.  I was a bit sad about that so decided to copy over the file from my other computer, which was still the coloured version.  Imagine my surprise to discover that the colour version is file version 1.0.0.29, copyright Psion Software PLC 1997 (Windoze file system date 02/03/1998), whilst the monochrome version is file version 1.0.0.52, copyright Symbian Ltd 1998 (27/07/2000).  I seem to remember that a program I installed told me that it would update epocinst.exe and after that it was colour but cannot remember which program did that (because I do so many...).  Or it may be that I read it somewhere.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I'd really like to go back to the colour install logo but am not about to install an older version of epocinst.exe to do so!

Thanks.

Subject: Uninstall PsiWin

I am completing the migration from the Revo/netBook to the 9300 and am uninstalling Psiwin from my PC. The uninstall seems to have gone fine, but now every time I launch Outlook I get an error message "Impossible to load or install the component C:\...\Psiwin\pwolplug.dll" I click OK and Outlook launches fine, but how do I stop Outlook looking for the missing plugin?

Subject: PhoneMan Pro locked out by lost password.

Hi

I installed PhoneMan Pro on my Mako (Revo+) some time ago, and had password-protected one of the phones that I had synchronised with. I have unfortunately lost the password, and PhoneMan Pro will not open without this password. I no longer wish to obtain details of the "locked" phone memory, I just wish to use PhoneMan Pro again.

I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling the program, but it still looks for the password & refuses entry to the program. Presumably there are still traces of the previous installation remaining after an uninstall.

My question is, is there any way to wipe PhoneMan Pro's "history" so that I can start from fresh with the program?

Many thanks

John Morris, Cambs, UK

Any recommendations for a 9500 in-car holder - allowing for TomTom
navigation ?

Is a in-car 9500 recommended for use with TomTom mobile 5 ?

Do you need to stop the 9500 screen auto-dimming ?

Thanks
