... this is somewhat offtopic but I'd like to know how you get your
coordinates in your sig - I think I've read sw (here? From Owen?) there's a
way of finding out coordinates without a GPS? Just a thought... several in
fact... :-)

best,

>>It can't open complex Word & Excel files <<

No problem so far and all my fancy Excel charts, that I had created when I
used a Psion and that I had to remove when I was using the Palm OS, because
Docs2Go did not support them, are back.

>> you must save as a new document if you make any Edits <<

Not at all.  I am afraid that you are missing something.

>> You can only open a single document within any application so you can't
for instance open 2 Word files <<

Yes, I agree that after the Symbian OS it is a drawback but at least you can
have one Excel and one Word file open at the same time, which is in
improvement compared to the Palm platform (Docs2Go does not allow that).

>> You can't print anything <<

To print, just sync with your PC.  It takes seconds.  I suppose that if you
travel with a printer, you also take your laptop along.

>> You need to budget for additional software which will add a significant
additional cost <<

Peanuts compared to the Palm platform.  MS Office comes for free as on Palm
you have to purchase Docs2Go $$$$$ that is expensive as well as dreadful.
Anyway, once you have Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Messaging (Email & Txt
applic), Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Pictures & Videos, Windows media, Active
Sync, Camera, Phone, Wireless Manager, Zip etc…that come for free with the
OS, what else do you need?  You can install Skype and it is free.

>> Similar keyboard to the Nokia 9300/9500 <<

The keyboard is a pleasure to use.  A great improvement after the Sony Clie
UX50’s one that was so hard.

>> No keyboard shortcuts so no Control C to copy etc., there is no Control
key <<

No need for that because of the very clever and useful Copy Paste that comes
with the machine: just keep your stylus on the screen and you are offered a
panel of options.

>> Have to turn on to see if you have missed a call, appointment or check
for SMS messages <<

Nope.  You are advised for missed calls, appointments and SMS by a ring that
you can choose.

>> Main support web site is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/ <<

I would also advise you to check the newsgroup: microsoft.public.pocketpc.

>> In March I made two business trips to Germany and Holland and my phone
bill came to over 300 pounds from which almost 130 pounds was data traffic
(GPRS) <<

O2 gives 1MB free download with the monthly telephone and SMS package.

>> Last month I went on holiday for 1-1/2 weeks and another 2 days in
Germany and took a laptop with me. Some hotels give free broadband, others
charge around Euro 15.- a day <<

No need to take a laptop anymore, because the HTC Universal is WiFi enabled.

>> with Skype you can phone all your contacts (office, home, etc) for
absolutely free and/or make very cheap phone calls in Europe for Euro 0.017
/ minute <<

I installed Skype on my XDA Exec (=HTC Universal).

>> Accordingly I switched to a laptop and use my mBook less than before <<

No need for a laptop anymore.  HTC Universal does it all.

To All: I promise that I won’t get any commission, if you ever purchase one.

Re.: P990i  - I currently use the P910i but I don't see how even the P990i could replace a 5MX. The screen is far too small and there is no usable keyboard. You try and work seriously on a little bit more serious spreadsheet or word document in that small format. I like the P910 a lot and use it daily, but replacing a 5MX it does not, nor will IMHO the P990i.
