I've had nothing but success with the adapter sold by PFranc:

I've about had it with Internet Explorer and was going to load up and try Opera.  I recently ran into mention of a FoxFire browser.  Anyone have experience with both and have an opinion as to which is best?

Am about fed up with my Palm Tungsten C and moving  back to my stash of Psions (2 5mx and 2 Malay Books).  Will give the Tungsten to my wife as a backup as she still loves her C.  Will look into a replacement for my Psions when I run out (probably 10 years+ hence).

To all.
Remember the black magic problem I had with my MC218? No one else seems to have experienced it. When I touched certain keys, it typed two characters. The only palliative was to keep it warm, in bright sunshine, on top of a lamp, or a radiator etc. First the screen blackened, then it worked for a while. I could even put it a short moment on the electrical stove, at the lowest possible effect. But one day I forgot it there, listening to an opera. So my MC 218 melted.

To Mike Dyer.
Could you be kind enough to contact me off-line on<address truncated> I still haven't managed to get in touch with the Libretto forum. I think I've done it right at least once (and wrong other times). I have also tried in vain to install the drivers for the letter box screen, but I do not know to which folder. In the meantime my old Satellite has died, taken you previous mails and links with it.

Rolf, Anthony,

Thank you very much for your inputs.

This article must then be one of those many, many internet hoaxes.

A month ago, hungry for more Psion information, I (rather foolishly it seems) subscribed to the Psion Computer Journal and made a payment through PayPall.

Over two weeks later, I had heard nothing from the PCJ in way of acknowledgement or the requested email copy of issue 3.  So i sent a polite email asking them to confirm that they had received my subscription.  Now, another two weeks later, still no reply.

I guess my money has just gone down the toilet, but hopefully my sad tale will prevent others from making the same mistake.  Ce la vie.

Hi Rolf,

I fear not. AFAIK, GoggleMail uses encryption (SSL or TLS) which isn't
supported by EPOC Mail or SmtpAuth. There once was a free library (SSLava) to add encryption to any Java application, but since the
company had been bought by Oracle, the software is gone.

Subject: 1GB MMC problem

Hello all,

I'm new to using MMCs, and as Googling turned-up nothing very helpful, I wondered if someone with pratical experience could help:

I have a 128MB MMC & a 1GB MMC.  The 128MB works fine, but the 1GB one is not recognised by the card reader built into my Windows computer.  However, I have tested the 1GB on a mobile device, so I know it works (and it is formatted).

What I want to know is if it is usual for card readers to have problems with large MMCs?  Or is my large MMC a funny one?  It is a (rather cheap) "ORA" card which was bought from Expansys.  Basically I need to decide whether I should return it to Expansys, or buy an extra card reader (yuck) or perhaps an MMC-to-CF adapter if they exist?

BTW, while my 128MB card has one row of metallic contacts, the 1GB one has TWO rows - is this usual?  Could this be the cause of card reader problem?

Answer to: Thomas F. van der Zijden

Re.: Psion gold card modem - The GPRS service outside your own country is extremely expensive. I was for 5 days in Germany in early March and the GPRS bill was something like Gbp 130.-. In April I was in Germany for 4 days and I paid in the hotel Euro 15.- per day, on the exhibition abt. Euro 25.- for 3 days (Euro 5.- per hour usage time) and another Euro 5.- at the airport for broadband wireless connections. That is abt. half for a totally superior connection working via remote access on my computer at work with all the funcitons and files available instead of only copies of emails. And I came back to the office to a clean inbox in Outlook, saving me a day's work to get up to date with my emails !  But, you need a laptop to do that.

Re.: USB-Serial adapter - As I wrote a long time ago, with me it worked the other way around. I bought another make first which did not work and than bought a Belkin which worked perfectly.

Subject: Help! Problem with mobile modem and Psion 5mx

Hi,

Can any experienced psioneers help me with a problem I am having accessing my ISP using my Psion 5mx. I am sure that the problem is not my mobile because I have no problem using it as a modem with my 2 laptops and desktop. I have also tried various ISP and they are OK too with my other machines but my Psion 5mx always throws up the same problem.

When I try to access my ISP, my Psion hangs just before the login window pops up. I suspect this because, when I check the etel log or during an ATD to my ISP via Comms, the text always seems to peter out during completion of the entry "User Access verification". It entry generally only gets as far as "User ......" or "User Access Ver.......". Each time the modem hangs this incomplete entry appears. Every time it connects properly and I can access the net the full entry "User Access Verification" is shown.

I make attempt after attempt to dial in but it usually takes about 25 or more attempts before I finally succeed. Some nights I just give up. What makes the difference to let me get through eventually I have no idea.

I have looked up every possible reference on the net and tried every possible permutation in my dial up etc settings. I have installed the mobility upgrade and also the IRDa one. They have made no difference whatsoever.

It annoys me immensely that when I dial in using the same mobile phone but using my laptops or desktop I succeed on the very first attempt!

Can anyone throw some light on what the problem could possibly be?

Thanks

Carl

Subject: PsiWin Restore Query

I have a PsiWin 2.3.3 backup/archive question.  Looking through the  Backup directory and archives made by PsiWin, it appears that the backup is very
basic--Psiwin makes a straight copy of the Psion c:, every directory and its
files.

Is this true?  And if it is, and a user had to restore on the road  without installing PsiWin on someone's machine, could the user copy the  PsiWin-made c: directories from a CD or hard drive back to the Psion?

This is relevant to a Revo, which does not have the good fortune to have CF
slot or FastBackup.  In case of a sudden hard reset, I'd like to connect  the Revo to a computer and restore its c: contents (made by PsiWin) via Window's
Hyperterminal or some other basic file transfer program.

Am I on the right track?

Many thanks,
Jake

Ex-Psion owners looking for another similar device, now that the Nokia 9500 is being phased out, might like to look at the E61, which I've been reviewing. See Ewan's text review and my video review, over on AllAboutSymbian.

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/3836_The_AAS_E61_review-its_finally .php

Another very good match for the Psion 'feel'. The office software seems to be a heavily reworked version of Psion Word/Sheet, although I can't be certain.
