Subject: Pls help with Adam's Hitchiker's Guide
Does any oy please have a text or .tr version of Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide books? Before I go searching the web I thought I'd ask here, on the odd chance that this club might've been first to notice a Psion is the nearest thing to it... :-)
best,

I eventually got around to ringing up Route 66 customer support, with mixed results. The girl who answered was very pleasant, but appeared to know very little about the program; the guy she put me through to was a lot more helpful. There is actually an explanation for what I'm seeing; it seems that the amount of entries that the TMC screen can handle is very limited, and as the traffic info is displayed country by country, and as Holland appears after Belgium, France and Germany in the alphabet, there has to very little info in those 3 countries for Holland to show up. Unfortunately, there is no warning when this limit has been hit, so it just looks like no info was downloaded for Holland. He agreed that this was not ideal but that I shouldn't hold my breath for a fix...
Cheers, Ian

Re.: Compuserve Classic - Is anyone still actually using such an account with their EPOC machines ? I gave up a long time ago as they keept on changing the log-in procedures and I did not have the correct script anymore needed to log in. If someone has a script that actually works, it might be worthwhile to publish it in the digest.

Re.: Route66 - I actually had contact with their support department this week and cannot complain about not reacting. Each of my emails was answered within 24 hours, some just after a few hours. My problem was that whenever I tried to enter the "history" of addresses the program would crash. they wanted me to reformat the card which I explained I can't do as there are some 45 other programs on it as well (2Gb). In the end I did not listen to them and uninstalled the program and than reinstaled it again and it works fine now. What I find very strange, a mistake in their programming, is that they do not keep these data in a separate file So a 9 for their speed of answering but a 5 for their competence to solve the problem.

Re.: Fund raising for sunk ship Naomi J. - It is warming to see that some people are prepared to help others even if you don't really "know" them. I feel that with such an event this digest is much more than just a source of information. My thought is that Owan based his computers very much on his EPOC machines which are now also at the bottom of the ocean. If anyone has got old or spare EPOC machines or other equipment that you don't need, think about giving it to Owan. I still have my old S5 in working order which I will offer to him.

Subject: Re. USB to Serial converter for Garmin eTrex
Dear All,
thanks for the various suggestions for a USB to Serial converter for my Garmin eTrex. I eventually decided to buy a converter recommended in last month's PDA Essentials, from GPS Warehouse. It may have been a bit more expensive than the other possibilities that were suggested to me (about £35 incl. postage to mainland Europe), but it had the advantage of being a. designed specifically for the Garmin eTrex range and b. coming with an eTrex connector on the end, meaning that I didn't end up with a 3m cable once I'd connected my original Garmin cable to the serial end of a "normal" converter cable.
Thanks for the useful suggestions, Ian.
