Subject: Compuserve Classic Login
This CIS login worked for me within the last four months, I believe. But as I said, Compuserve Classic balks at GPRS, from any machine, ER* to whatever flavor of WindowsCE. And that's why I switched to Earthlink, which is cheaper, more spam, and GPRS-friendly.
FWIW, AOL will work on ER5. The IMAP add-on will allow you to receive and xjmail will allow you to send AOL authenticated mail on the space-tight Revo or a user can go the famed SMTPAuth route on the less-cramped 5mx.

I shall do as you ask. I have no idea where or how to contact Owen but I guess he will know how to find me if he wants to take up my offer. Incidentally, if it had not been for the Digest I would not have become aware of Owen's problem. I still don't know how or where the accident happened but I have been travelling so perhaps I missed some message.

Accidently, my post to Rolf has made it into the digest. To be polite, I'm translating it for all of you. :-)

I'm no expert but I have some ideas.
RFC 2822 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2822.html) describes the general mail format, including headers and their special formatting. A generic hint to conform to this standard is pretty stupd, any mail client should automatically do it right.
The hint to add a PTR record to the DNS doesn't help much, either. These records form the link between IP addresses and Internet names The sending mail server (in our case Google mail) does have a DNS name and hence a corresponding PTR record. There are new mail sending procedures which make use of some *special* and *additional* DNS records in order to reduce spam, a type of "may this server send mail from or to this address" handshake. I don't know any details but I assume that the "wrong" "From:" header is causing us some trouble.
Some digest messages have reached my mailbox more or less "mistreated". Some node in the mail chain must be unhappy with the line length and adds empty lines in inappropriate places:

I fear that Google mail is the culprit. Who is currently processing the digest and how is it done?

Subject: File structure on new Nokias & SE
Hello everybody on the digest!
Question to Steve (Lichtfield) & Co., please:
Does the Nokia E61 have a proper file structure, i.e., folded folders and files like we had in Epoc 5?
Same question - if someone tried a prototype of them - for the SE M600i and P990.
I understand that all three machines run Symbian 9.1 as kernel, with Nokia series 6o third edition sitting on top as user interface for the E61, and UIQ 3.0 for the two SE's, respectevely.
Technically, therefore, they should, but you can always count on marketing to mess things up!
Thanks
PS: I do find that what happened to Owen is horrible, but I will try to contact him directly and will keep this off the digest.

Subject: Dim Cymraig
Hi Folks,
Sorry, Marcus, but I neither read nor speak German.
I *do* realise that you probably had a good reason for not posting in English but I’m afraid I really didn’t understand the point of your post. Could you explain it in English, please?
Happy days,
Phil.
ps. “Dim Cymraig” is Welsh. It means “No Welsh” (the language, not the people). Iechyd da!

Subject: A bit about Owen
Hi Folks,
Kees (and Rolf), I understand that some may find the references to Owen Morgan rather obscure - but Owen was a prolific contributor to this Digest (until he physically lost touch) and many of us, though we’ve never met Owen physically, feel we know him.
We sympathise with his loss and we all wish him well. Many of us wish to help him. We want any news about his sad plight and we can *only* get this through the Digest. We are grateful to Ulrich (and others) for keeping us informed and to still others for their patience in putting up with posts they cannot properly understand.
Owen’s plight will progressively (and, I hope, rapidly) take up less of the Digest as his situation improves. So please could those unfamiliar with Owen bear with us?
Happy days,
Phil.

Subject: Adam's Hitchiker's Guide
Answer to: Itamar Englesman & Mike Dyer
I would normally send all my replies to the Digest for everyone's benefit, but I wasn't sure of the Copyright situation regarding the HitchHiker's Guide books (I don't think Mr. Adams has been dead long enough for the copyright to pass into the public domain) & I didn't want the Digest to get a bad name for dealing in Copyright material like those 'Warez sites out there. That is why I sent my reply directly to Vlad, but the message I sent to the Digest was like a hint to the members that I did have a solution.
I do have a set of text files of all the HitchHiker's Guide books which I got from some long forgotten website & I have also produced a set with each paragraph as a logical line, suitable for importing into any wordprocessor (such as Psion Word) so that the text wraps to whatever the current screen width is.
Since I have bought all the books, I feel morally OK for having an electronic copy myself, even though it's probably not strictly legal. If anyone wants a copy, please email me (I would suggest off-list) stating that you have also bought the books yourself.
Regards,
Simon

Please forgive me for being disruptive for the third time in a row (however, viewing that the Digest has been rather quiet lately this will be, I hope, less of a nuisance). I do agree that any largesse toward Owen may remain private as some prefer or believe it should. But I would very much value learning about him without having to invade his privacy right now, which I guess is the before-last thing he needs. It is not a matter of principle to me, but of interest for a person I have "met" here, I admire and respect.
And, again, thanks to all for your work and help and for keeping this list alive.
best,
vlad a

... wasn't Mike, it was me. What I meant was: Simon posted help on-list and kept details off it (where imo they belong, bar my association of the Psion with the famous Guide). Anyone interested could have me-too'd in. We used our better judgment, hope this didn't offend anyone.
The List is so much "home", besides it's been rather quiet lately, so I thought I can break a rule occasionally if the reason is good or witty (or serious) enough. I could've raked the net, but this looked like a shortcut... Please excuse the misunderstanding/disruption and thanks!
