Hi Itamar,
be carfully, if you try ProjXpert. Don't buy it! The last release is dated 2001.
When I did want to try the program at my Nokia9500 I wrote to the author with the address given in the help file. My email was bounced!
Handango, which should handle the order (20 $), wrote:

In www.psionwelt.de you can find a thread about the big amount of failings in the program and the bad support.

Subject: Positive WiFi experience with 7Book

A cafe in my neighborhood offers free wireless, and last night I brought down my 7Book + Buffalo wireless card to try it out.

I was able to get online without difficulty - just opened Web, entered a URL, and when I got the message "Connect with ?" I selected the Ethernet setting I have for the Buffalo card. I was online in seconds.

While online, I was able to visit numerous different web sites, download podcasts in MP3  format from WashingtonPost.com and send/receive emails. I also tested Opera and Web on various websites - while Opera can open secure websites, which Web can't do, my experience was that Web was superior in every respect (ease of use, speed, downloading links, display, stability, etc.).

In the course of 2 hours, the battery fell only from about 12.6 volts to 12 volts. So a fully-charged 7Book seems to be able to surf wirelessly for hours at a time without difficulty.

In comparison, I also tested my WinXp notebook which has built-in wireless. The first hour was spent downloading and installing 58 security updates - once that was finished, the whole process inexplicably repeated itself, and the 58 security updates were downloaded and installed again.

I then tried to download the new Internet Explorer 7, and was told I first had to install ServicePack2. When I tried to install ServicePack2, I was informed I first had to install some automatic update software, which I did.

I then downloaded ServicePack 2 (80MB) which took close to 40 minutes. After the download, I got a message "verifying download", and the harddisk light began blinking incessantly as the computer verified the download. That's when the battery died and I got the message "installation failed".

The Psion, however, was still going strong - no viruses, no system updates needed, no crashes, and plenty of battery life left.

I was very pleasantly surprised - the 7Book appears to be a very competent wireless machine.

I'd be curious to hear what other experiences people have had using WiFi on a Psion, particularly with regard to the relative merits of Web and Opera.

Answer to: Franco Cozzani,

Re.: Franco Cozzani - This week I sat next to someone at a wedding who uses a T-mobile phone/PDA with a thumbboard that slides out from underneath the phone in horizontal way and the screen automatically adjust to a horizontal view as well. What impressed me most was the clearness and readibillity of the screen, so much better indeed than the P910 or P990. But ... it runs on PocketPC <sigh>. But I am still looking into that combination, we'll see.

Hello all, does anyone know of a good finantial calculator I can use
with my recently bought Psion Series 5? I always used an HP calculator
and I miss it on the Psion.

Thanks for your help
Alberto

Hi

I got me SEP990 a couple of days ago.  O2 have been delaying their upgrade
for the last month so i ended up paying some extra and got an upgrade
through Carphone Warehouse.  As soon as I got the phone I have re-flashed
it with the latest firmware.  I read the review which  was done in
September 2006 and i agree having issues when the phone had just be
launched is not good.  however i can draw a comparison with the o2 xda exec
i got last year with windows mobile 5.  this to required a firmware update,
had memory issues (not the rebooting) but apps would close themselves.
then having to understand that unless you power off the phone with the
standby button before rebooting it would not save any changes because of
the flash ram used - i have to admit this was nearly returned but i
persevered and it sorted itself out.  however it has been gathering dust as
it was too big and i went back to my p900.  the o2 3g signal isn't very
good where i am based and has an issue when trying to do gsm dial up - an
issue the p990 also has.  in the end i just tell it to connect to the gsm
network as opposed to the 3g.  also i can recall the nokia 9500 having
little issues when it was first launched.

i have tomtom 6 loaded onto the p990 device and am yet to test this on a
route and hope it doesn't reboot, lastly i will be trying the wifi tonight.

one thing unlike the o2 xda exec/nokia 9500 at launch, UIQ 3 seems to have
more software available whereas WM5 devices when they first came out were
not really 100% compatible with WM2003/2002 software.  but again i can
recall by nokia 9500 being in the same situation when it first came out.

two apps i can recommend are swiss manager pro to help resolve the memory
issues which is a useful task manager - however i am awaiting the release
of sman for the p990.  the other app i recommend is webgate advanced call
manager to get rid of unwanted phone calls.

the two apps i want to see on the p990 are a quick reboot app - something i
have on my xda exec and 9500.  i also want to see something so i can switch
off the menu transitions.  i already do this in xp as i am not bothered
about flying graphics. i just like the JFDI approach when it comes to
menus.....

overall first impressions of the p990 are good, its early days but compared
to the last two smart phones i have (i still use the 9500 daily) it is a
worthwhile upgrade in the p series range.  the 9500 was my dream phone but
this has stalled in terms of lack of software available.  the xda exec
again is windows and i have never really liked these.

any questions then please ask me.

regards,
Craig
