I believe Moshe asked if it is possible to bring up the Extras bar using the keyboard (I haven't got his original post handy and I don't know which machines he was asking about). The following information might be handy - I got it from http://www.ericlindsay.com/epoc/mkeys5.htm , where there's a lot more:

SILKSCREEN KEYCODES

- - -

Jim McDuggan wrote that if my Psion 5 touch screen was broken, I could access the silkscreen keys by pressing the Ctrl key, then these codes:

Menu 10000
Cut/Copy/Paste 10001
Infrared 10002
Zoom In 10003
Zoom Out 10004
System 10064
Word 10065
Sheet 10066
Data 10067 (Contacts on S5mx)
Agenda 10068
Time 10069 (Email on S5mx)
Calc 10070
Sketch 10071 (Jotter on S5mx)
Extras 10072 (well, you can look at them, anyway).

So I also checked on a genuine broken 5mx Menu 10000
Cut/Copy/Paste 10001
Infrared 10002
Zoom In 10003
Zoom Out 10004
System 10064
Word 10065
Sheet 10066
Contacts 10067
Agenda 10068
Email 10069
Calc 10070
Jotter 10071
Extras 10072 (well, you can look at them, anyway).

And Simo Cockshutt advises on the MC218
CTRL + 10065 CONTACTS
CTRL + 10066 AGENDA
CTRL + 10067 MY PHONE
CTRL + 10068 E_MAIL
CTRL + 10069 INTERNET
CTRL + 10070 WORD
CTRL + 10071 SHEET

- - -

These are NOT the same on the S7 and netBook. Beneath are the codes for the S7 and netBook, from Michael Degn.

Menu 10000
Cut/Copy/Paste 10001
Infrared 10002
Zoom In 10003

I had this problem on my S5.  I opened the case and found it was a broken flexi-cable to the touch screen overlay.  Not the usual screen cable problem.

As the 5mx had been released, I used the fault as a good excuse to convince the other half, that I needed a new Psion.

It probably can be repaired.

Is this Windows XP Home edition? If so, then forgive me if this sounds really dumb, but why not install it under the user account you'll actually be using? It works fine for me (although my user account does have Administrator privilege).

Here's hoping you're not saying, "Duh"!

Ed.

P.S. You'll probably need to do a fully clean uninstall to achieve this, i.e. run the registry cleaner at www.garethjmsaunders.co.uk/psion/psiwin_uninstall.html _after_ you have uninstalled PsiWin as Administrator.

//No-one's responded to the query I posted a little while ago - repeated below. Perhaps because it's more to do with Windows XP than with PsiWin? I've just reinstalled PsiWin v 2.3 on my PC, which runs Windows XP. I was logged on as Administrator to install it. I get the same problem I've always had with the PsiWin/XP combination: PsiWin works fine when I'm logged on as Administrator but refuses to connect when I'm logged on as a different user. How do I fix this?//

Hi Chris

My suggestion - make sure the other user profile has administration rights, and if the user profile is a member of a domain, that there aren't any domain rules that are blocking its use. Otherwise, try installing PsiWin again when logged in under the other user profile. Also make sure the inbuilt windows firewall isn't blocking PsiWin when you're logged on with the other user profile.

I'm sure there are many other possible reasons (and cures!) so keep persevering.

Re.: 5mx problem - The only problem with your advice might be that once you have a problem and than back up your machine, you could back it up with the problem and after the hard reset with the re-install you could rinstall the problem as well ...
Re. New things - Unfortunately I am not as exited about my netBook anymore as you are. Basically I use my netBook for emailing and some storage of data, but slowly but surely more and more of the tasks are transfered to other machines, PC, laptop and new phone. I still use ABP and Money a lot for my bank accounts and bookkeeping and together with emailing these are the main functions. Even route- and Streetplanner have been replaced by Route66 on my P910i, but will now have to be transfered to my new phone again (see more below).

To All:
Re. New phone - Some time ago someone offered to write about his new phone, the iMate (or other make but basically the same phones). I would be interested to hear more about it as I have just bit the dust and got myself a Qtek 9100 which is basically the same phone. There is a lot to say and write about it which I will do at a later stage when I got used to it a bit more.
Just a very first remark is that synchronising the phone with a PC is just as difficult as trying it with Psiwin, even though it is Microsoft software. I needed to hard reset my phone twice before I finally got it all working.

Re.: PsiWin / XP problem  - I am far from a Windows expert but I think the only solution is to make the other user an administrator as well.

Answer to: Joe Fell

Re.: Unable to change Jotter data - It is possible your jotter file got corrupted. You could try to export all the data, delete the jotter file and create a new one and than import the data back into the jotter file. Instead of deleting it you can also renamen it just in case you don't succeed and want to change back to the old one.
