Gary,
If you don't mind me saying, one reason people may have shied away from your post is because it was uninformative, in the sense that you didn't say what you had tried, why it started, etc., etc., etc.
Your sync problem is a chronic one, and might be addressed by downloading a PsiWin/Contacts synch upgrade at:
http://www.mikemcc.org.uk/
But I hesistate to recommend that since I know so little about what you've tried.
You might also try PDAStreet.com, going to the Psion forums there, thread-searching, and listening to anything Jim Cooke has to say about PsiWin. He is arguably the guru of synching, though appears to have left Psion support for other things. Good luck, and if you're still stuck, do post more details than previously.
Best,
Jake

Has anyone tried using a CF card WIFI card - either in a 5mx (can it accept wifi?) or with a CF to PC card adaptor in the Netbook? Any issues compared to a PC card WIFI card?

Subject: re- Synchronizing Agenda & Outlook (Office 2003)
Hello Gary
"Does anyone have any tips/ideas/suggestions of how best to synchronies Agenda/5mx with Outlook/Office 2003-WinXP so I avoid all those duplicated and inaccurate entries that I got the last time I tried this??"
I never responded because I don't use Outlook 2003, and I also was waiting to see what kinda of response u were going to get back about compatibility issues.
However I have been using XP netbook/5mx & Office 2000 suite for about 6yrs now without any major problems. U may get advice about only using it the sync one way, thats nonsense! My office will add things to outlook all over the place - and I will be adding things all over the place out on the road using my PSIONs. After proper setup with psiwin a few clicks and all is up to date -
and I would consider my self as a power end user, meaning I use my Psion to the full of what is was meant to do.
ex. contacts to contacts,
agenda to agenda,
task/todos/memos to outlooks/task subfolders,
data to subfolders in contacts/outlook,
word to pdf to emailing or syncing to pc
sheet to excel.............ect ect ect........
syncing both ways has never truly been an issue at all
u will need certain software of course , such as the duplicate entry problem they have something for that problem one for the netbook and one for the 5mx ......... someone
I'm sure someone will be able to direct u to the correct site for that
I would like to upgrade to OFFICE 2003 suite or at least OUTLOOK 2003 as well, but I'm to afraid of losing a good thing! If someone was able to answer all my sync concerns with a positive outcome then I would upgrade as well
Good Day
Donald

Prar,
>>I've just become the owner of an SE M600i. Does anybody have any tips to share? Like what format videos does the media player play (not WMV on mine). And how can I beam my calendar from a MC218 to it?<<
If it's like my P910 (which I expect that it is) then the video player can play MPEG4 and 3GP videos only. I think the only way to beam your calendar is by beaming individual entries, which is a pretty laborious way of doing it (I did the same with my netbook contacts when sending them to my P910).
I hope this helps, Ian.

Subject: Synchronising Agenda & Outlook (Office 2003)
Gary,
what do you expect us to say beyond "run the sync program and follow the instructions"? Evidently, back up both the Psion and Outlook before you do anything. Make sure your selected date range fits your needs (this is a point to consider if you delete the Outlook .pst file before syncing. If your date range which you want to keep extends beyong the sync date range, consider exporting your Outlook data and re-merging the additional data after a successful sync). Run the sync function. If PsiWin asks whether to keep new/old entries on the 'other computer', decide according to your wishes. Try 'delete' the other entries first; if you then find that items which you want to keep have been deleted, restore your original data and try again, this time keeping the 'other' items. If duplicates appear, delete them manually on *one* of the two machines, and run sync again straight away. You should then be ok.
Syncing is easiest of one of the two computers is empty (ie Agenda and Contacts) at first. Check if you can empty one of them; if you have necessary and separate entries on both machines, proceed as above. Also, check if Outlook accepted fields which you added manually on the Psion (eg if you added a second 'private email address' or similar) - these may not necessarily appear.
Hope this helps.
Please note that I don't have Office 2003 but Office 2k; but I suspect it works the same way.
Regards
Karl

Subject: Digest future
Good Day All
First, A little history of my introduction to the PDA world: Not quite sure what year it was but it was when the er3 series 5 unit made it's way into the US and I was looking for a simple organizer to keep my phone #s easily available & holding in hand a Texas Instrument PS-2000 DataBank/Scheduler and trying to figure out this primitive device (that I thought was state-of-art) when an acquaintance (salesman) heard I was fiddling around with this an approach me with a series 5 unit that he himself wasn't quite sure of all the functionally but knew that storing phone #s was easy ............ It was love at first site.
He was right, but that was all I knew what to do with. I would dabble with the agenda and calculator and that's it. I owned a computer for a few years thinking I was going to be high tech but never even knew how to turn it on. After calling PSION Signature service support team here in the states they told me this unit was capable of so much more, ask if I owned a computer so I remove the cobwebs and blew the dust off of it and said yes (to make a long story short) they walked me through the setup. (Over the years people blasted their support team which I never knew why I got to know all of them on afirst name basis)
The bottom line........with that support I took computer classes just so I can use my PSION to its full potential .......creating MSword docs for customer contracts, excell for pricing outlook for appointments ...ect....ect....... and with the help of Psion Signature service plan they got me to mobilize my business.
from there I went on to forums such as this and learned how to make my PSIONs communicate with the outside world (meaning MS) with advice like nConvert Pdf+ Pdfprinting MBMview ect.......Palmtop mag (had the greatest information)...........
I've always believe that if something comes along buy a spare and I have; two series 5 (sold one)
two series 5mx (one has never been touch, except when the cable thing happen and had to get repaired)
two netbooks (same as above only when sent in for repair, mic. thing and screen cable thing)
I'm still using my first sets, and plan on doing so for as long as i can (netbook 6yrs now, 5mx even longer)and spares to keep me going - I am so glad that I have these spares because like many people I always been looking for something better and dabble but never bought into the lies. ( n don't start with me - their all a joke compared to a PSION )
I listen to and read many comments to this very date about all the other PDAs/phone - and without a doubt nothing comes close to a PSION............ LONG LIVE PSION n THIS DIGEST
Good Day n Happy New Year

In response to Gary Jenkinson's fourth plea, Itamar wrote:

The reason I didn't reply to Gary's original plea(s), is that I have had no problems whatsoever syncing between Outlook and Psion! I realise I am one of the lucky ones, but it works for me perfectly - in both directions, and I update both Outlook and Psion agendas (using Win XP, PsiWin 2.3.3 and Outlook 2003).
I hope I'm not pre-empting any changes to the Digest, but sadly, I cannot say that I have had the same experience with ActiveSync and Windows Mobile. It seems to fail to synchronise on a fairly regular basis and, unlike PsiWin, is relatively unconfigurable (not to mention being a good bit
slower).
The grass isn't always greener!

Subject: Nokia 9300/9500 Sync
Hello all,
After over a year of frustrating cable sync problems (Nokia pc suite not recognizing 9300 whilst Win xp does) I finally solved the problem by luck.
After connecting a bluetooth usb dongle and setting up Nokia pc suite to recognize it, everytime the 9300 bluetooth is turned on it is immediately 'connected'.
Just thought I would inform digestees in case others have the same problem with usb cable sync.
Best regards,

To Gary
Sorry you felt ignored, but I had thought answers had been posted.
I concur with the advice to go just one way. In my case, I enter
everything in the office Outlook diary, send all entries to my personal
diary on Outlook and sync with my 5mx over PsiWin. Have had no major
issues with this method for 5/6 years or more.

Subject: controlling what program opens htm files
is there anyway to control which browser opens htm files on a netBook. On mine, Web opens. I would like opera to open them. I am talking about clicking on the file. I know I can open opera and navigate to the file too. Thanks. --Chris Holly
P.S. I like the digest as is, but I recognize that many have moved on from 5mx and netBooks and even communicators. I really haven't found anything I like better than my 5mx.

Gary why waste time and effort to synchronise?
I'll assume that you don't need this for a company system where many
have to sync together.
Connect your Psion to any Windows PC and use 'Copyany'. Then you have a
second screen always available with your Agenda etc.
Use <Ctrl+C> and <Crtl+V> on both machines to use the joint clipboard.
When the phone rings and you need some data, the Psion is on instantly
and you have probably completed the phone call before windows has
completed booting.

} >>I have posted here about the change in date/time stamp
} It's not entirely clear from what you say whether it's
} Windows that's not so clever, or PsiWin. Having been
} singularly unimpressed with PsiWin ever since I bought my
} first Psion, my inclination would be to blame PsiWin.
I have never been a fan of windows (still got my 5 1/4" floppy disks
with Version 1) and somewhat similar to PsiWin. As a big user of
Psion's DOS utilities, all called via a menu program, I naturally bought
PsiWin V1.0. I expected it to be better, but very quickly removed it
and never used it again.
I now use 'Copyany' all the time as my S7 or nB is permanently connected
to XP and gives me a second screen, without any syncing problems. (Why
sync, when you can have better programs on a connected Psion?)
However the date/time stamp problem has changed with different versions
of windows. After years of incremental backups even after GMT/BST
changes without any full backups occurring. At the last change, I
suddenly got full backups. PsiWin had not been changed, but having
installed a Micro$oft program or two, I guess that all the the extra
files installed into 'Office', have changed windows.
I've recently been looking into the date/time stamps of digital camera
CF cards that I use on all 3 of my cameras.
Plugging a CF card into a Psion gives the same (within a fraction of a
second) time as the EXIF time taken data.
Plug the same CF card into a windows card reader and get a change in the
hour.
So PsiWin is not even used. I've found errors of 1, 2 and 3 hours.
Alan.

I've been looking at the CF-18 for a couple of years, so I'll have to

have the special expensive pens as on most other Tablet-PCs, that don't
work with a finger nail ?
Thanks,
