Steve and Joseph,

Many thanks for such interesting workarounds.  I will look into those, and in the meantime, I was lucky enough to stumble on the freeware DBFViewer at http://www.coolutils.com/DBFViewer
So by converting a Psion Data file to DBF5.0 via PsiWin, the files comes up almost perfectly on the Windows OS as far back as 95 (DBFViewer won't install on Windows 95 [error message needing about "Windows 4.10"], but simply lift the installed directory from 98-and-above and paste it into a 95 machine, where it will run fine.)

The only rub is that some fields come up in length as 221, which occasionally truncates the last part of a Subject heading.  But the Notes section (I run Subject/Type/Note Body fields) is unlimited and renders the text beautifully, including all carriage returns, etc.

As for that 221 length, I haven't figured out a way to lengthen that, say to 260, in Psion's Data program.  But 221 is enough length for the vast majority of Subject headings.

Again, I'm very appreciative of your help and will see which of these procedures/software is the best,
Jake

Re.: Doing an Itamar ... - Thank you for the honour of naming your action after me <G>. Are you really sure you want to keep all these features in one "box" ?  I think in the end it always means compromise one way or another. For example, I have got a small GPS unit in the car that came with Route66 I bought for my P910i. it now works happily with my Qtek 9100 and as I use Tomtom only in the car, I don't care / mind it is two units instead of one. Would a separate music solution not give you far superior sound quality aboe everything in the phone ? And, if your phone would need a repair you lose all your functions. I had a look at the Kaiser website but don't see the thumbboard being any better than the Qtek or HTX TyTn so I think the angle of the screen is just a gimmick. It looks good when put on a table but I use my Qtek mostly handheld when the flat angle makes it easier to work with. And the price ..... ?

>((I am glad you got it to work again but keep in mind that sooner or later our EPOC machines will stop working, they don't have the eternal life. I think it is best to get used to the idea and to orientate yourself for when it will happen. I still use my netBook for several functions and it works a real treat, immediate switch on and just such a great keyboard allowing touchtyping. )) Itamar,

I am back to using my Tungston C for walking about PIM stuff and have my 2 MBooks "synchronized" and backed up on a Windows desk top.   I'm fairly well done with my 5mx's as both are down with bad cables.  My Canadian repair center has more than doubled the cost of cable repair in the last year and my last cable repair lasted 3 weeks.

My TMobile account will allow me a new phone in November and am considering a mobile windows OS smart phone, but I think I probably should move alll of my publishing work off of my Psions and onto the desktop machine.

I may consider learning how to replace a 5mx cable but suspect that that will be flogging a dying horse.
