Don't even think of replacing your Psion - it can't be done. The Psion is about as good as it's going to get in terms of portable word-processing.

I haven't replaced my Psion RevoPlus - I've upgraded its abilities by using a Dell Windows Mobile device for wireless connections, Skyping, watching videos, etc.

With these two very small machines (both can fit easily in a single pocket) I have a great word-processor, can view most document formats, make cheap international phone calls from any WiFi hotspot, watch videos, listen to MP3 files and so on. I also have StyleTap, a Palm emulator, installed on the Dell, which lets me use my favorite Palm apps on the PPC as well.

As technology progresses, I'll probably dump the Dell, but keep using the Psion as my primary portable computer. I'm pretty happy with this solution.

A question in one the recent Digests made me think of this: Can a Dacom GoldCard modem be used with a MacBook? New MBs do not have an internal modem anymore.

Any idea?

Tim, I'm in your exact situation: I use a 9300, I like it's phone/PIM integration, love the automatic syncing with my PC via Bluetooth, and the screen is wonderfully bright. But, but...I could never get used to the poxy keyboard and my fingers are forever hitting the wrong keys. Writing anything longer than short notes is a pain, and this negates the entire idea of having a keyboarded smartphone.

So I recently resurrected my Revo, packed it off for a battery transplant and it is now back in use again. It is like meeting a old friend after so many years. I have also bought an MC218 off eBay to join my netBook! I can now finally write longer texts in comfort and transfer them to the PC via infrared.

However, we must be conscious that technology has moved on and some modern conveniences will never be available for our Psions: PsiWin syncing is *lame* and unreliable; without serial ports, connection to PCs is erratic and dependent on kludgy adapters or erratic infrared connections. Above all, it is getting difficult to connect the Psions to Internet: I don't think it is possible to wirelessly link a 5mx to Internet - you'd need the drivers that are only present on the netBook, and then these only allow for Wi-fi cards that at most support WEP encryption, not the more secure WPA. Even connecting the Psion to Internet via mobile phone is getting difficult: no problem via my 6-year old Siemens ME45, but the Nokia 9300 does not seem to accept outside connections to its modem, even though you can transfer files back and forth.
