I don't see why you'd need to change the cable. But it will of course
take longer to fully charge a Netbook Pro battery. Note that incase
it is not clear, I do not actually own a Netbook Pro battery, but I
have read of others using them, and did consider buying one myself at
one point (but I decided that my existing 5-6 hours battery life was
good enough).

Hmmm, you may have missed the boat on this, because the 9500 (and 9300
too I believe) is no-longer manufactured, so they are quite difficult
to find. Until recently Mobile Fun had stocks of both, but not now it
seems.
I'm not sure where you live, but if the UK then a search did turn-up
someone still claiming to stock them - so if you're interested, then
let me know.
I had been strongly considering buying another 9500 (or 9300i) as a
backup, but in the end decided that I don't want to tie myself to
*another* abandoned platform (two is enough for me - Psion & Amiga).
Even though there seems to be no true Psion successor, apart from the
Nokai 9500 (the E90 is totally different, and it's PIM functionality
has some gaping holes unless you use 3rd-party replacements).

I'd never actually tried this, but it seems that as long as plBeam (now free) is installed on my Netbook, then it can send/receive files
to/from my 9500 just fine.
Also, the Nokia 9500 can create, send & receive faxes using the
Messaging program (which also handles Emails & text messages), but I
haven't actually used that facility (except maybe once).
And although the provided Adobe PDF reader does not have a Print
facility, mBrain's PDF+ program (which still costs) does have.
*BUT* there doesn't seem to be any "Print to Fax" option. And
although the 9500 can act as an InfraRed modem, it apparently does not
act as a Fax modem. So you can't print-to-fax from the Psion either.
I'd suggest that your best option is to find a mobile phone (probably
an old model) that can act as an InfraRed Fax Modem, and then print to
it using your Psion...

The 9500 seems to support saving as MS Word '97 format (or plain text)
and MS Excel 2000 format, although I cannot guarantee what (if any)
formatting is preserved (I suggest you use Google). The Psion may be
able to import those formats, but I'd suggest that Neuon's nConvert is
likely to do a better (but imperfect) job.
Someone was working on a *native* Symbian<->Psion Word/etc converter,
since their formats are so similar, but this seems to have stalled :-(

Already covered this - no print to fax on the 9500. Nor saving in
Psion format (see above).

I am glad to say that my Netbook (and a spare!) is still working
perfectly, which is pretty amazing.
Can't say the same for my Revo (two Revos & one Revo Plus now
abandoned to the dreaded Revo Battery Problem). I actually did open
heart surgery on my Revo Plus recently, and replaced it's AAA
batteries, so that I could use it on holiday (instead of my expensive
9500). But since then I haven't found the interest to use it - my
9500 does the same job (and more), with vastly superior screen, and
the Revo battery life is still way too short even with brand new
batteries.

Subject: 9500 ?s follow-up
Hey Thanks Chris for your response, It is most assureing knowing your are a user of this 9500 Thanks again!
"Hmmm, you may have missed the boat on this........" (I live here in New York and there seems to be many ways to get my hands on these units supposely new) so your response have arroused my intrest agaain. - I hear what your saying about abandonedware another reasons for all these question.
"I'd suggest that your best option is to find a mobile phone (probably an old model) that can act as an InfraRed Fax Modem, and then print to it using your Psion..." (Yes I do have that end taken care of - I realize long ago that all my questions about faxing from a Psion were almost never answered, I seem to be the only one in the entire WORLD that really uses this function (One of many main reasons why I will not leave my Psions)........... To make a very long story short I own many backups of compatabile IR phones with built in modems. (YOU MUST have fax option activated through your mobile provider in order to send n receive faxes, this will cost extra which most Psioners don't know - Known as CSD option - This I believe is why noone is able to answer any of my questions about faxing) - also another reason for all these questions.
"..................... it seems that as long as plBeam (now free) is installed on my Netbook, then it can send/receive files
to/from my 9500 just fine.
This I think is my most important piece information that I would need,- If you can answer this as acturely as possible I would appericate it.
Yes of course plBeam is one of my must have's as well as PDF+, nConvert, irFaxModem phone ect.... all the important ones that will keep me mostly connected to the world
1st I want to make sure I understand what u said -
"the Nokia 9500 can create, send & receive faxes using the Messaging program ........................." and then u said " ............*BUT* there doesn't seem to be any "Print to Fax" option. And although the 9500 can act as an InfraRed modem, it apparently does not act as a Fax modem. So you can't print-to-fax from the Psion either.
"Already covered this - no print to fax on the 9500. Nor saving in
Psion format "
Does this mean u can only create faxes using Nokias messageing program only? and
Do u mean that the Nokias Word/Sheet program has no option to print it as a fax?
and
"So you can't print-to-fax from the Psion either." well, I think this might be a type error because as I said I've been printing to fax from just about any program that can print includding PDFs from the PSION and send them out as faxes - THIS IS THE BIG PLUS for my bussiness because these faxes don't lose any formatting at all no matter what u put into it. - I was hoping I would have this same convience with the 9500 - but
From what I think I understand from your feedback is I won't be able to use the 9500 as an IR modem, is that true?
Remember - u must have that fax option activated through your provider (it will cost extra, so most people won't bother) - so are u sure of this?
Last question - I think
Are u saying files would have to be converted 1st before sending them over to the 9500? (ie. word/sheet) so they can be viewed on the 9500 ?
Peace, Donald
