Subject: HTC Advantage or Shift
To Bert,
Thanks, Bert, for your comments on Shift. Yes, it looks like a very neat unit. However, unlike the unforgettable 5mx, its size makes it unpocketable, which to me is a major problem. Its short battery life is also a serious disadvantage for me. I also wonder whether with Vista as OS you have PIM features available. Thanks again, and please let us have any other comments on the Shift.
Still, if there is anyone familiar with the (smaller, better power supply) Advantage 7510 (or 7500 or 7501), I will greatly appreciate learning about it.
< Well Moshe, I know I 'm not answering your question, but it I bought aHTC Shift...
And that is, in my opinion *the* Psion replacement. No drawbacks? Of course, batterytime of course (who can beat a Psion on that...) and keyboard (again, who can beat a Psion on that...). So I'm considering to buy a PhilipsPower2Go with it.
Greetings, Moshe

This shouldn't normally be possible, because FastBackup tries to
detect if a hard-reset has recently occured, and will question whether
you really want to do a Backup in that case. This feature has been
present since v02-Apr-2005 r6 of FastBackup. I wonder if you were
using an older version?
Alternatively, FastBackup would detect AA battery changes in a 5mx as
a hard-reset, so I had to fix that in the next version. This
unfortunately means that a hard reset will only be detected if you use
FastBackup BEFORE setting your Psion to the correct date/time. I
guess this might be a more plausible explanation?

I'm glad to hear that you still had *a* backup (even if slightly
dated). It is for disasters like this that FastBackup's documentation
strongly suggests having at least two backups (and alternating between
them - or as in your case, backing-up to the PC too).

Subject: Trade MBook for 5mx
Now that I have my stuff moved from my MBook to my eee machine, my MBook is now surplus. Good condition except power connection may be going bad (I
put it in gently and it works ok but suspect it is on the way out).
Will trade machine as is for a 5mx. If the 5mx has a bad screen cable that's acceptible.
Will throw in an OS boot memory card (and power supply, of course).
