In answer to Richard Haxworth's question 1:
The EPOC "Emulator" works, after a fashion, in Linux under Wine's Windows emulation. I haven't found it 100% reliable but it's good enough to get the job done. There is one issue that springs to mind: don't let the thing "switch off" automatically. Under all Linux variants I've used it on, the emulator will minimize as intended, but then will refuse to "switch on" when maximised again. Minimizing it manually is no problem.

Yes, back in April 2007 I email the Digest with the settings that I
had successfully used:
http://www.psioneering.co.uk/digests/01077.html#T6
Make sure to read the follow-up post too (immediately after it) !
HOWEVER, Google's own Java app also works quite well on the 9500, so I recommend trying that too. To download & install it, start Web & then
open this address:
http://googlemail.com/app

Have a look at http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=12057- it
seems several people have managed to "transplant" an Epoc Emulator
installation from a Windows PC to Wine running on the Eee. I haven't
tried it yet myself though...

Hello Chris,
thank you for your hint. It works.
Hello Kees,
thank you also. Fortunately I had not to install Java. (I don't like it, because it swallows a big amount of working space.)
