Subject: RE: Energizer Lithium AA batteries in a Psion 5mx

# I thought that some list readers might be interested to learn
# that a set of
# Energizer Lithium batteries lasted for 40 hours and 50
# minutes use in my
# Psion 5mx. It used 2502mAh over that period
I use a 5mx PRO as my number two Psion, my 7 or netBook is number one.
Now retired the 5mx PRO is not used as much as in the past and it gets
only about 2 -3 hours from Duracell AA. It's main use is as a duplicate
of my #1 Psion for taking walkabouts, so mostly used on mains while
using EpocSync.
For sometime I've been considering putting the PRO into storage and
bringing out one of my two normal 5mx, as the PRO uses batteries much
faster.
After reading Austin's post, a quick web search found:-
<www.photoglossy.com
They are selling AA 4-packs + 2 at the cheapest price and FOC delivery
(UK). So I've got 6 cells on the way for only £11.98.

Hi Austin,
that was an interesting read.
Having a Psion topic again, I want to share my experience with rechargeables (rc).
Several years ago I experimented with rc. The Up time was always too little for my taste, although I have also tried the then new 2500 mAh cells from Sanyo. Data loss was always a threat according to the fast decreasing voltage towards the end of the period.
That is why I kept using Alkaline cells, which lasted me 3 to 4+ weeks, with heavy use of mains power (all day while in the office, hundreds of hours).
Half a year ago I became aware of the Ansmann maxE cells with 2100 mAh. These claimed to have almost zero self discharge. With these I am perfectly happy now, although they don't last as long as your Lithium cells (but are cheaper).
The Sanyo 2500s lasted much shorter than the Ansmann 2100 due to their high self discharge, in spite of their higher nominal capacity. 3 to 6 hours of battery time only within a 1-3 week period.
I still have pairs of alkaline hidden at various places (car, backpack) in case the maxE cells are empty on the road. Sometimes (after a month or so) I recharge them without prior 'invitation' by the Psion.
With greetings from Germany
