*  I wonder who Kees email provider is?

Hello John,

My SMTP provider is Online/Orange/Wanadoo, that's one company, at home, when i'm using the WiFi in cooperation with my netBook. When I'm out, I use the travel modem with a fix landline and then I use the following providers Online/Orange/Wanadoo or Tele2/Versatel/Zonnet
The pop providers are Online/Orange/Wanadoo, Tele2/Versatel/Zonnet and KPN/Telfort. Then I can tell you that Tele2/Versatel/Zonnet is the best, because they have a good free spam filter and I can always login on that server, by the other two prividers I have to waight for at least 10 minutes after my last login.

Regards,

Kees.

Subject: Larger Compact Flash Cards

Hi Todd
I suspect that you're finding it difficult getting CF cards below 4GB now. I saw that coming a few months back and stocked up on a few.  The ones I was able to get and work are Sandisk 1GB, Sandisk Ultra II 2GB and Sandisk Extreme III 2GB.  The Psion can't read any 4GB card that I've tried.  I very much doubt you'll find any 1GB cards in stock anywhere other than second-hand now but the 2GB cards are still available, e.g. at
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Compact-Flash-Cards/SanDisk?&filter=2048#memFilter
I wouldn't hang around - I don't think 2GB cards will be available very much longer either!

Cheers
Austin

Subject: RE: Energizer Lithium AA batteries in a Psion 5mxPro - update

Previously (Digest #1280) I reported that 1 set of Energizer Lithium AA batteries had lasted for over 40 hours in my Psion 5mxPro.  I suspected that Citymaps being open had caused premature failure and I also mentioned that they suffered a very rapid power fall off.  I said I would update readers if the next set provided substantially different results.

Well, today I replaced another set and here are the figures (with previous data in brackets for comparison):

Batteries inserted 4/10 and replaced on 4/11
Time on external power: 552h 20m (925h 22 m)
Time on batteries: 57h 16 m (40h 50 m)
Total battery used: 3099mAh (2502mAh)

I think these results are substantially different in terms of battery life (40% more) and battery power used.  Whether this proves my theory that Citymaps was the cause of premature death of the earlier set is open to conjecture but clearly shows these batteries as being capable of offering almost twice the amount of time available for use as compared with any other battery type I've tried.

The power fall off was much more measured with this set but still more rapid than for alkaline, in fact the end decline was similar to the fairly steep decline of NiMH batteries.  I first got warning (2.5v) before lunch, by early evening they were getting to a dangerously low level (2.3v) So long as you have something like PsiLoc installed, which monitors battery life and warns of low capacity, you'll be ok - otherwise you could be caught out.

I'm going to continue using them because even under high-drain situations their life is significantly better than any other alternative.

Austin
