Not a problem. Instead of going to 'hi tech gadget stores' or online stores, try visiting your local photo shop.
In Scandinavia, I'd also suggest stores like Elkjøp, Expert and Biltema.

I may be wrong(it has been known to happen once or twice... Every century... ),
But I believe the problem is in the limited choice of FAT versions available on the Psion.
It may be possible to use larger cards if one partition them up in two or more partition.

In fact, I remember that someone once posted a guide to that in the digest. I just can't remember who, when or how...

I have an 8GB CF running inside my Psion Netbook. The trick is to partition the card into multiple 2GB partitions (4 of them in my case). This is a restriction of the FAT16 file system used on the Netbook. The Netbook Pro overcame this by using FAT32, hence I have a 16GB card with one 16GB partition for my Netbook Pro. Eat your heart out Eee PC owners! ;-)

Misco in the UK (www.misco.co.uk) still have 1Gb "Transend" compact flash cards for sale, at a price of GBP 8.21 + postage.

Best wishes

- I suspect that you're finding it difficult getting CF cards below 4GB now.
I saw that coming a few months
- back and stocked up on a few.  The ones I was able to get and work are
Sandisk 1GB, Sandisk Ultra II 2GB
- and Sandisk Extreme III 2GB.  The Psion can't read any 4GB card that I've
tried.  I very much doubt you'll
- find any 1GB cards in stock anywhere other than second-hand now but the
2GB cards are still available, e.g.
- at
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Compact-FlashCards/SanDisk?&filter=2048#memFilter- I wouldn't hang around - I don't think 2GB cards will be available very
much longer either!
------------

This really isn't a problem, all you have to do is partition the 4GB+ CF
card in a PC to ensure that there are 2 partitions (+) that are 2GB or less
in size and then format each partition in FAT32!  Though I do suspect that
the UDMA cards won't work in our Psions, slower cards will and the Psion can
se up to drive X: (Z: is reserved for the ROM).  This means that you could
use up to a 48GB CF card with 24 2GB partitions all formatted in Fat32,
though you may only be able to see 22 of the drives!

David

Hi Austin, Todd,

i can report that my NetBook is quite happy with my 4 Gb Sandisk! No problems with diskspace anymore ;-))
Steve Litchfield  mentioned the following in his Psion Knowledgebase (wich has the format of Q&A, obviously!):

*I'm trying to get a Hitachi 4GB Compact Flash type II memory card working in my netBook, but this reported only 1K of space available! If this card is not compatible then what's the biggest drive that will work in the netBook?*

Your card will work, but the faint-hearted should look away now! If you don't feel confident at very technical matters, ask a computer-savvy friend to assist. Your Compact Flash will probably be slightly over 4GB in size, and this is beyond the netBook's limit. You need to reduce its capacity by using 'fdisk', 'diskpart' or a similar partitioning utility (e.g. 'Partition Magic') on your PC. The threshold is actually 4096MB, so go for 4090MB, for example. Then format the disk on your Psion and restore your files. One down side of using such a huge disk is that its cluster size is going to be really large as well, so that even small files will be allocated lots of space.

If you need more info than have a look at
http://www.pscience5.net/CFPartition.htm
Wishing you all lots of space, and remember:

Psion RuleZ!

Cheers
Bert
