To Itamar:
--A cheer to you and the team is indeed in order, well deserved. You have really been doing a great job, and you have, I am sure, the gratitude of us all.
--Re Nokia's N97: It does look good and promising. Unfortunately, though, as you say it's not really a Psion replacement. Like all the other similar recent products, it's ALMOST there, but not quite! The main culprits are, as you also found, the size and workability of the display and the keyboard. Which makes me go back to HTC's Advantage 7510 (http://www.htc.com/www/product/advantage/overview.html).Have you, or anyone else on the Digest, had a chance to check/use it? And if so, how would it qualify as a Psion 5 replacement?
Greetings

> Re.: N97 - I don't think this is what I have been waiting for. The phone looks very similar to the Qtek 9100 I had before, only it is Symbian and not MS mobile. The screen is somewhat larger but still small and the keyboard is more a thumbboard than a real keyboard.

Thanks for reminding me... I am grateful to all of you for your work. I admire your constancy and patience. I feel privileged to be part of this small community for so long, and still proud of my 5MX. And still not understanding why it could not survive.
By the way: does anyone still have any contact to former engineers? Where are they? What do they have to say about the Psion now?
Best early season's wishes,

Subject: Usage of Psions
It's been interesting reading what people use Psions for. Most visibly I use a Series 7 for doing EPOC Entertainer and the EPOC Game database, and a combination of the same Series 7 ("tiberius"), a Series 5 Classic ("caracalla"), a Revo ("otho") and an Osaris ("vitellius") for developing software. These have names not because I think of them as pets but because they connect to my Linux home network for file transfer and occasional net access :-)
For real life tasks I use a 5mx ("caligula"). Sheet keeps my home accounts. I monitor health with Sheet, Agenda and Jotter. Data helps me record my book collection so that never again should I inadvertently buy the same book twice. MobiPocket is on there for electronic books.
But it's for my work as a local councillor that "caligula" comes into its own; it was built for this job. Agenda is a godsend for meetings and to-do lists. Contacts is obviously useful and integrates seamlessly with my old Nokia 6230i. Word and the proper keyboard are great for writing letters to constituents and then Email is used to send the nConverted letters into the office to be printed and posted. Jotter is great for notes from telephone conversations, meetings and surgeries. I use data extensively for recording casework and for maintaining my copy of the electoral roll. The only third-party app I use for work is Street Planner, which has been great for use with Planning Committee papers which don't always give adequate context on the maps for planning applications.
The council keep trying to foist MS solutions onto me but while my Psions are still working (and I have another four machines that could stand in for "caligula") I will continue to resist!
