John, there must be 2 different versions, one for Series 5, and one
for Series 5mx. The big difference between the 2 versions is as you
have found, the way the date is extracted, as the 2 different psion
mail systems display the date differently.

(we use SaveMail not MailArc by the way)

Firstly thanks to all for the latest copies of MailArc and Savemail.
SaveMail is macro based and takes time if you need to archive a large backlog of emails but is ideal for daily use as it saves incrementally straight to a data file. Its workings are transparent and easily understood.
MailArc operates directly with the Psion Mail files and Peeks the data directly. It is much quicker but It does not extract all information in cases where Mail has split the message headers on to a seperate file. i.e. to/from information is lost in these cases. Message size is limited to 10k approx.  Attachments are not tackled, however Mail does store these in a form readable by Editor .It also does not decode dates correctly. As the author cannot easily be traced I decompiled the program and looked at the proc:getdate and changed two lines to correct the difference of 8 years 11 months 19hours 29 mins and 36 secs out.
PROC Getdate:(pr6z)
  LOCAL lc49z,lc53z%,lc52z%,lc51z%,lc54z
  LOCAL lc55z,lc56z,lc50z
  lc49z=pr6z*0.065536+81184+70176
rem   lc49z=pr6z*0.065536+81184
  lc50z=INT(lc49z/86400)
  DAYSTODATE lc50z+DAYS(14,11,2006),lc51z%,lc52z%,lc53z%
rem   DAYSTODATE lc50z+DAYS(14,12,1997),lc51z%,lc52z%,lc53z%
continues...........
If Psion had continued in the EPOC market this program could have been developed further as the concept is good.
As I still use my Psion plus mobile phone for my main email I have opted for SaveMail.

Hi,

MailArc was a great program, indeed. Especially, if to take into account, that Symbian did not publish the structure und the storing method of email files.

It's Symbian to blame. Unfortunately Nokia continues this practice, to dissemble the storing structure. The emails are stored at the Nokia Communicator in an other way than in the Psion5mx.

Do someone know the storing structure in the 9500?

Best Regards

Rolf
