Subject: EPOC Entertainer 16

Hello Digest readers!

EPOC Entertainer 16, the March issue, is now available from its home at the URL below.  EPOC Entertainer is a magazine leaflet about games for the EPOC32 platform.  Computers covered include the Oregon Scientific Osaris, the Psion Revo/Revo Plus and Diamond Mako, the Psion Series 5, 5mx and 5mx Pro, the Ericsson MC218, the Geofox One, and the Psion Series 7 and netBook.  The magazine leaflet is published monthly in PDF format, as an A5 leaflet to be printed on both sides of A4 paper.

In this month's issue, there are two reviews: one of Alignment, by PocketIQ, and another of Psion's Tac Tile.  Also, the programming tutorial The Small Screen continues, with a look at scrolling around a large playing field.  As usual, downloads related to this month's reviews are available at the web site.

Yes, the S7 and netbook can only drive 3.3V PC cards, not 5V ones. I
should also point out that only a few WiFi cards work because there's only
a few drivers in EPOC.

The problem is that many(particularly cheap ones) adapters doesn't implement much or any Hardware Handshaking, and Psions NEED HW handshaking.
Same goes for serial-based Palms, for that matter.

A good suggestion, is to check that the adapter uses a FTDI chipset, as these DO support the full package of handshaking, so that all the adapter manufacturers need to do is add the actual copper trace on the PCB.
If shopping online, just download the manufacturers drivers beforehand and take a look inside the .inf file...
And if Windows offers to check 'Windows update' for a set of drivers that fit, do NOT let it do so. There has been issues with those drivers in the past...

After poor results with some little known brands of converter I am very satisfied with my KEYSPAN converter. See www.keyspan.com. It is designed in the USA to high standards ( although assembled in China ).

I think there was mention in a previous Digest that Clove no longer has USB/Serial cables, but I haven't checked that out.

I do have a Siig cable it won't work on my Dell desktop, but does work on my Sony laptop. Go figure.

Hello,

It's the same old discussion.
When you upgrade your S7 to a netBook, then you have a netBook and the WiFi will work. I write and sent this mail with a 7Book on my WiFi network at home with WEP encryption and MAC-filter. 7Book = S7+netBook module.

Kees.
