I've also been a wandering, but land based, so a late response.
I'd lost track (sorry) of Owen and his website has not been updated.

Subject: Psion and Mac...

My experience with Psion and Macs is not that much... (Even if I'm a born-again Jobsian)
Some time after I got my iBook(G4/1.33GHz) I got hold of GuestPC from http://www.lismoresystems.com/en/whichis a VirtualPC program capable of running WinXP (barely on my iBook... I hear it screams along on a G5... ) with full USB-support.
So I continued to back up my Psions uing PsiWin 2.33 and a USB-serial converter on that.
No need to go into unfamiliar territory...

Hi Vlad,
only recently I have bought a Serial/USB cable from "Conrad", a German shop for electronic stuff. After some experiments with different drivers OS X 10.4 sees the device (the chip set) but I had no chance yet to successfully connect either a Garmin geko 301 or a Psion Series 3a. I know there is some Belkin adaptor with better Mac support but I couldn't find one yet here in Munich.
My time for experimenting· about these issues is a little bit reduced at the moment since I also had to struggle with a HD firmware problem of my NAS device. I also just recently switched all my newer Macs to 10.5 and hope to have some time soon to test again with the GPS, the 3a and a 5mx Pro.
3a and the PowerMac 7500 chatter just about everything, no problem here.
Cheers,
Carl

I forgot your question about data conversion: from memory (all 5mx need to be repaired first) EPOC's data files can be exported to .csv which is Comma Separated Value (see also
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values>).Anapp like NeoOffice or OpenOffice.org happily reads and writes .csv, but I also often use BBEdit: just rename the extension to .txt and BBEdit (TextWrangler might do the job as well, both are produced by
<http://barebones.com/>).Allmentioned apps help you with changing the files' encoding to transfer the Umlaut and other special symbols.
Hope that helps,
Carl

Hi Gareth,
it's amazing to hear, that PsiWin works under Win7.
I think, it will be of interest of many subscribers. Therefore I'm writing here in the digest and not in your blog.
Unfortunately the most of todays PSs don't have RS232 port. The question for me is, can it work using a RS232 to USB· adapter (I could not bring to work my adapter under Vista.)
The second question:
Do can you connect your netBook to the Internet via the PC and by which program?

Pls. explain, what is the "7Book" module and what are it's features.

Damian Walker responded
"If you select a subset of records using the "Find:" feature, then "Export as text file..." will only export those records that appear in the list.· To export one record, you need to search on something that's unique to that record."
I can't believe Damian, that after many, many, many ................... years & much more many times I've asked (via all fourms)if it was possible for a single or multi records from one data file be transfer to an another data file, and u had the answer all this time IT WORKS GREAT :) I've even spoken to u personally from NY USA better late than never I suppose!
Every time a new method of data transfer is discovered it brings new life to my PSIONs
LONG LIVE PSION!

Subject: Re: Battery Problem/Sony P Series

Vlad your suggestion to leave the battery status window open when changing batteries worked perfectly the status bar zipped up from the original low position to the full position. Thanks.
Ajai Khattri, in Digest 1290, gave a link to the Sony P series. I was intrigued since the web site showed a hand holding the thing and said it would fit into a pocket or purse no I don't use a purse. :-)
I finally got around to going to the Sony Style store to actually look at it what a disappointment. It's much too big to fit into my handlebar bag. So it won't be a replacement for my 5mx if and when I need a replacement. It would never fit into any of *my* pockets maybe I'll have to get a purse. :-)

Subject: Windows 7

I was very pleased to read the positive experiences regarding PsiWin 2.3 and Windows 7. This should ensure that we can continue into the 21st century with existing software.
My ontingency plan was to get toconnectyou running on my XP to see if it worked.
I have successfully set up the incoming connection on the XP (after some trial and error) but
the problem I have hit is getting XP to accept a connection from this software via the rs232 port Com 2 as the pretty standard script provided for the "internet" and run on the Psion causes the pc to "hang".
If anyone has any suggestions they will be welcomed.
Regards
John

I use 2.3.3 Build 150 on XP.
I won't use Vista as it's so time wasting and it's loss of features.
And as for it's files held in virtual folders, it's a real pain to work with.
I'm recently on a new desktop that came with Vista and I ensured that before ordering, it had the 'restore to XP' disks.
I do find that at times the display shown on your blog, sometimes won't display all the files on a Psion.· This requires changing the view (i.e. icons or text).
Has M$ extended these virtual folders in W7?
I install Copyanywhere to start into the 'Notification area' everytime I have a new installation of Windows.
My Series 7 or netBook is always beside my Windows desktop or laptop.
