Hello Giorgio,

One advantage of the MC218 over that Psion 5mx is that some of the international characters are clearly marked on the Fn+letter keys, but I assume either that the US version doesn't have this advantage or the particular character you want isn't among them.

On all machines you can access the "Insert special character" option.  In some apps it's on a menu, in others only the shortcut key, Shift+Ctrl+C, is available, and in Sheet it's not available at all.

It's cumbersome for regular entry of characters, but the dialog does show the ASCII code for the character you're about to select.  If you can remember the code for the most frequent letters you use, you can then type them in any app by holding Ctrl and typing the ASCII code; the character will appear when you let go of Ctrl.

Hello Dave,

I don't think it's possible to "connect" your vitrual Psion using Psiwin on a single machine.  If the emulator will allow serial communication through the host computer's serial port (I'm not sure if it has this facility as I've never tried), and if your computer has two serial ports, I suppose you could link one serial port to the other with a null-modem or crossover cable.  I'd be surprised if a modern mini-laptop had one serial port, though, let alone two.

*  as you might already know, most latin languages (like Italian) make
*  frequent use of vowels with accents;
*  Typing them on the UK (!) version of an MC218, is quite easy: it's
*  enough to press the "Fn" and the "X" keys just before the vowel and I
*  get it accented.
*  But the same procedure simply doesn't work on the US (!) version of an
*  MC 218 !:-(((
*  Apart frome the obvious (but unsatisfactory) use of the apostrophe,
*  any (similarly easy and quick) solution ???

Hello Giorgio,

Strange that it doesn't work on a US Psion.
Did you try the (Shift+Ctrl+C) option (Insert Special Character)

Regards,

Kees.
