Joseph, I'm also keen to embrace progress, but find that too often the progress is backwards.
I've also bought a new PC with Vista, but before buying I checked to ensure that it came with XP upXXXX down grade.
I find that too many daily used features in XP have disappeared in Vista. Not there, hidden or renamed! It's now too slow to do my regular tasks. The virtual folders are also annoying.
But the underlying DOS has had new commands added, that I like. But the losses are too great.

Well there *some* differences: a low-power netbook will boot and run faster with XP than Vista. Those people that do run Vista usually switch off all the fancy effects (or they are simply not available because the graphics chipset is not good enough).
An Atom is lower power than a mobile CPU which is lower power than a desktop CPU. Also, note laptop drives run slower (5400 or 4200rpm) than a desktop (7200 or 10Krpm) drives which also contribute to performance figures.
Aj.
Many thanks for the responses to my translation of the manual especially the offer of a review of my work by an experienced translator.
I am taking some time over the holiday to tidy up my draft and will email it to all in the next two or three days.
Also, having read the latest Epoc Entertainer, the exact url for the Spectrum emulator is: www.worldofspectrum.org/faq/emulators/portables.htm

I have two Eee PCs also. I really like them especially the 900 with the bigger screen . Like others the only problem that I have is the keyboard. It seems like you have to really scrunch your fingers up to type and eventually it gets a bit uncomfortable. I also have an Acer Aspire One. I like it very much also. The Eee PCs are Linux and my Acer is Windows XP. The Eee PC gets on to the internet and brings up email and the web extremely fast. When I click on "mail" it is there almost instantly--almost no delay at all. I have never seen a faster response to bringing up my email. My Acer is great but very slow at receiving email and web browsing. There are settings you can do to make it a bit faster but still doesn't come close to the Eee PC for speed. If the keyboard on the Eee pc was better there would be no problem at all. I have been using my Acer for longer text documents and the Eee PC for email and web browsing.
Thanks,
Bobby
