As someone who has wasted a lot of time stockpiling and fretting like a miser over his li-ons from Jornada 720s to EEE PCs, I've come to the conclusion that another piece of hardware will fail you long before batteries become a problem.
Even with my beloved Makos, whose batteries are difficult to replace and dodgy as well, I've been able to install new ones. I gave up my Makos just two weeks ago for a Nokia 9300 because after replacing the batteries in one machine, the keyboard became problematic. Old hardware fails, in my experience, and it's usually not batteries.

The charge of batteries on a Psion netBook machine is not really an issue.
I have had my netBook since 2004 without changing its batteries.
I've been using it every day and there is no real loss of power.
I can still have 7 hours of power with one charge.
Should it be necessary to replace the lithium elements of the battery
is quite an easy job.
There are a few articles about this on the net and you just have to
buy three separate lithium batteries (reference on the net, I do not
have it right now) and carefully solder them (please read safety instructions on soldering lithium ion elements). It is not difficult
and can be done by anybody who is careful.
So there is no worries at all regarding the lifespan of your Psion netBook. The batteries should not be an argument to switch to other machines, EEPC for instance, which severely lack the instant on
feature and the power, ease and productivity of EPOC32.
Hope this solves your worries,

There are ways and methods of extending the life of a li-ion battery. Treat li-ion battery devices like phones seems to be the advice. Have a read of:
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/05/07/beginners_battery_maintenance/
I'm sure that eventually someone will get around to taking one of the batteries apart to see if they are replaceable
Hi Rolf,
Please take a look at http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/touchbook/
My advise is that you should go for an ARM based Netbook. It'll outperform any Intel Atom based Netbook in both battery time and general performance with the right Linux OS.
I don't know whether you prefer Windows or Linux, but bear in mind that Windows doesn't run on ARM (except for Windows CE).
Best regards,
/Michael
I am not aware of any new devices with a 10-inch touch screen, however I
know of one with a 7-inch touch screen and it looks good: check out
http://www.myviliv.com/ces/main_s7.htmlfor the Viliv S7, there is an S5
with a 5-inch wide screen and no keyboard. The machine is powerful enough
to run Vista but comes with XP loaded, can't find any prices for the S7,
however the S5 appears to be $599. What's more, it is slated to have a
battery life of 6 hours does that ring any bells?! It can also start XP
from standby in 5 seconds and will last for about 200 hours in standby.
With the advent of Windows 7, which has much better integrated touch
technology, we may well see more devices, however that will be another year.
In the meantime, watch the Viliv space!

David
Hi there fellow Digestees,
I've been trying to copy and convert my Agenda files from my Psion 5MX to my laptop, but when I select the Conversion tab in My Psion it shows "Epoc Agenda converts to " (a blank space), and when I try to Edit the Epoc Agenda it shows "No Conversion".
Does anyone know how I can get the conversion working?
All the best,
Kate!!
