Hi Jim,
You don't mention which Linux distro you have on your eee. In the EU the eee and also the Acer Aspire One were shipped with Xandros Linux AFAIK.
Installing applications/packages from the console can be a pain as nearly each disto has it's own commands. Some examples:
Ubuntu: sudo aptitude install <package
Mint: sudo aptitude -y install <package
Fedora: (as root) yum install <package
SUSE: (as root) yast -i <package
Mandriva: (as root) urpmi <package
However, you should also be able to install programs from the Add/remove program option. I guess you know that you can only install packages as root (sometimes known as superuser) which you become by entering your password (notice that for some systems you may have one password for the root account and one for the user account). So it's quite easy to install applications.
I have an Acer Aspire One which I find excellent as a Netbook. On that I run Linux Mint it's a real pleasure.
You're most welcome to ask questions about Linux. A lot of smartphones are running a variant of Linux (Openmoko Linux, Android, WebOS, Maemo) so it's very relevant to include that in the digest.

In the last years I have used the regular EPOC emulator (OPL SDK) on my PC and on my EEEPC machine for maintaining my OPL (freeware)programs like Biklog5 and updating them. I have also the Revo variant of the emulator, which is basically a delta installation on the regular EPOC emulator ( to be installed on a different drive from other SDK
installed). However, the regular EPOC emulator is based on the original series 5 design and although the screen size can be enlarged to be more usefull on a PC, it is still limited to black and white graphics and a maximum of four buttons in the toolbar when developing OPL programmes.
It seems that there is also a Netbook variant, which can emulate 100% of the series 7 /netbook machines. However, I have never find any trace of this SDK, not on the website of Teklogix, neither on websites like
Psience5, or the nice emulator site of Gareth Saunders.
Although I got a promise from the webmaster of the Teklogix website some years ago to place the netbook SDK on their website, they have never
done this.
With the rise of the "modern" netbooks like those of ASUS, Acer and Samsung, etc, it might be now even more attractive to have a Netbook variant of the Epoc emulator.
Are there any digest readers, who have knowledge of the location of this SDK or even have a copy available for me??
Any help in this is much appreciated.

Greetings!
My Psion Revo (Diamond Mako) not doing well these days, I am considering to buy N97 of Nokia. I saw someone using an N 97 and found to use word or spreadsheet, one has to buy the programme separately. He told me his was one of the earliest models (he is working with Nokia, Finland) but is not sure how it is today.
Any idea if I will have to buy the programs separately or do they come in the bundle?
Thanks in advance
