Re.: goodbye Symbian, hello Maemo! I am a little behind reading the digests. Thanks for the links and explanations. Personally I don't think Symbian has much chance of survival in the long run. Like Psion it had it's days and once was "on top of the world" but other platforms have taken over and most Companies are trying to copy or compete with the iPhone and it's capabillities of touch screen and using your finger instead of a stylus. I use a Ipod Touch and must say I find it easy to use for what I use it for. I have tons of music and lessons on it, I watch videos in airplanes and it is my main diary and contact database. With some third party software it is greatly enhanced. A lot of the software was free and some others bought for little money.
My latest phone is the T-mobile MDA Diamond V (HTC) which is a sleek phone. It took me quite a while to find the software I needed, mostly freely available, and I start to like it a lot now. But neither of these I use for internet browsing (unless I need to look up something small or for typing long documents (like this answer).

Re.: The Sharpsion What software does it run ? On my WM6 machine I run Agendus Professional which is not bad at all.

Re.: TomTom Software for Psion Devices I have the same CD's still in my safe at work so if anyone else is interested give me a shout. Steve, what program do you use instead ? I used TomTom Navigator for a long time but in the last half a year or so switched to iGo which I got from a friend. I think it is better tham TomTom and interesting is that the various maps does move from one to the next so if I start of in Amsterdam and drive to Paris it automatically uses 3 maps to get me there. The program does not fully work properly on the WM6.1 platform and I had to downgrade to an older version that for one reason or another does work but will not sound an alarm when approaching speedcameras which is rather annoying.

I would like to wish all Jewish members of the Digest as well as those associating them with the Jewish Faith or just feel with us a very happy and healthy New Year, a Shana Tova, and all the best wishes for the new year.
And to our Arab brothers I wish them an easy fast during the Ramadan and a happy festival at the end.
All others will have to wait until the end of December :-)
Best regards,
Itamar
Greetings!
I was checking a twitter feed about the latest incarnation of OS/2 when I found this article...
http://technologizer.com/2009/09/17/old-operating-systems-dont-die/
Guess what, the author of the article is a Psioneer too, just one who doesn't seem to be aware of the Digest.
(Took the liberty of posting the link in the feedback section. )

There is no special "Netbook" version AFAIK:
You had to replace the Toolbar.opo file with a different one yourself. There were several versions doing the rounds, including one with many additional features (like improved battery guage).
You had to replace the 5mx screen graphic with a larger (custom-made) Netbook sized one, and change a config file to tell it about the larger screen + graphic.
I do not recall having problems with OPL & colour either, you simply had to use the correct values when describing the display mode. If you have an old OPL guide, it may not contain the values needed for the Netbook. Try looking at my TubeRoute source code (comes with the main program on the Freepoc site), to see how I got it to do colour (beware there is a lot of code!)

Re.: Psion platform Well, not all dead as yet, we just passed digest no. 1400 ! And in the digest was announced the next online Epoc entertainer no. 21. I am still going strong on my netBook (typing this message on it) and still think it is one of the best machines I ever owned, for me even better than the 5MX.
