Oops, it's been so long since I actually used it that I'd forgotten it
was an OPM and not an OPO.

You're welcome.

Hello Jaap,

My last email was truncated for some reason, so here it is again...

In principle all OPL programs can be run on the WINS 'emulator'.  In practice some OPL programs use OPXes that do not have WINS version available.

All my OPL programs will work on the emulator, although in the case of FastBackup it runs with slightly reduced functionality (due to one missing OPX)

Hmmm, maybe I was mis-remembering that Martin's toolbar ran on the emulator  In any case I have hurriedly (and without testing) ZIPed-up all the emulator files that I think you will find useful, including the Toolbar.opo that I used.  I have TEMPORARILY uploaded it to this location, but make no guarantees about how long it stays there:
http://cshandley.co.uk/temp/NetbookEmu.zip
Although I called it "Netbook Emu", it actually has a 16-bit (?) 800x600 display, so it's better than the Epoc Netbook!  On an 1024x768 display the emulator nicely fills the whole screen :)

I have included a boat load of Wins OPXs, which were all the ones I was able to lay my hands on, so you should be able to get quite a few OPL programs to work.

I have NOT included any Wins apps, since I do not appear to have kept the installation files (if they had any).  I could perhaps try to extract one or two Wins apps, such as the MbmViewer app (very useful)....

I am afraid that only OPL programs will have 6 toolbar buttons normal apps will still only have 4 buttons.  That is because Toolbar.opo is only used by OPL apps.  It would require someone to update the Wins emulator, and possibly the Wins programs, to get more 6 buttons.

Subject: A 'native' netBook netbook

Dear all,

As I understand it there are some new 'netbooks' that do not have a standard Intel processor, but an ARM. These netbooks cannot run standard Windows, but they can run their own sort of Linux. Some very cheap netbooks (<< EUR 200) can either run their specific sort of Linux or some kind of Windows Mobile with which they are actually sold. In that case they are instant-on.

Given this specific architecture of the processor and the fact that our own netBooks are also ARM computers, would it be possible to implement a native EPOC R5 OS on these machines, perhaps with a bit of magic of the EPOC programmers still here around ?

For me, my netBook with EPOC and its set of programs is still the most important computer. The only reason for me to stop using it would be a hardware failiure, followed by a failure of the machines in my extra stock.
It would therefore be great to have a hardware replacement.

I was considering a netbook under Windows, running the emulator, but the emulator did not run all of the programs and it is not instant-on.

Yours truly,

Thomas van der Zijden

Thank you Chris for this file. It looks nice but at first sight it looks
that the custom batch file is only for a series 5 type screen format.
However I have the graphics and the corresponding batch files for other
screen sizes.

I did not see however your toolbar.opo file. in the zip file. I already
got the source code of the original Symbian toolbar  and I also found a
fix to get 6 buttons on the side bar instead of the four I had on the
WINS emulator. It was mainly changing a constant  from a value of six to
eight.... I did not have time yet to test extensively my modification,
but my programme is now correctly working in the emulator. I wil test
more and report it to the Digest later. Meanwhile if you could send me
your version of the toolbar I can possibly compare it with my version.

I had -maybe mistakenlygotten the impression from a text on the
Teklogix website some years ago that this was done already but not yet
published on their website. Apparantly I was wrong.

Anyhow, thanks for your help.

Hi,

There's a place on ebay, Revo Support Service I think.

I know they offered a replacement service and could also upgrade memory. I got a used Revo from them a while back and I'm really pleased with it.

Cheers,

Craig
