Hi,

Did you install the program "plbeam" so far on your 5mx? For some IR protocols this is necessary to transfer files from one device to an other.

Subject: Netbook version of the (OPL) EPOC emulator

Hi Andy,
I am getting there, slowly. I have modified the startup .inifile and made a new frame based on a netbook and other icons so that it fitsthe 701 EeePC screen. I have used SwitchOff by OSG of Patisoners to stop itfrom switching off :-) as I haven't been able to wake it back up when it does.

I don't know how to make the emulator run SwitchOff as soon as it starts. The file that starts the emulator running seems to be:./Epoc32/Release/Wins/Rel/Z/System/Programs/APPRUN.DLL
Hacking that is well beyond my ability. Help anyone ?

> So at this point is there a definitive download that encompasses all the most recent EPOC OPL emulator changes and is available for all us Windows netbook users? It would be handy to be able to run this definitive emulator version on our new hardware, as our Psions slowly crumble away...!

Some of what I have done can be found here :

this is not using the wide spread standards. You need a software that sends using those standards, hopfully also working with Palm Treo ;) See http://www.pscience5.net/LFAll.htmand look for CBeam, plBeam etc. and select the one that suits you IrDA needs.

Cheers, Georg

Geocities is now down................but not totally out.

The Waybackmachine has many pages and a reocities project is under way to restore this part of web history for access.

On a related topic: if you have downloaded Devender by Mark Wheadon he can be contacted at<address truncated> and can supply a registration code in return  for a contribution through Paypal.

My review of FinCalc5 and some downloads is now on tobidog.com and further reviews will follow.

Try plBeam.
You can find the program on the site of PsiLoc and you can generate a code on that site too.

In fact the case is rather that of an invisible Psion !
In the place where a work a social worker noticed I have always got a Psion 5 mx with me. She came to me and told me she has got one too and thinks it is really a tremendous little machine.
As I asked her where her 5 mx was, she said it was at home, because she was fearful of breaking it or wearing it out when carrying it with her !
I told her there are several sites, where you can repair or buy Psions, and there are also forums, or letters like the Digest where you can ask or reply questions, and so on...
I think I did not convince her. That Psion 5 mx will for ever stay safely in a drawer and never see any longer the hubbub of the world.

Andy and others,

My apologies for reacting so late , but due to some problems with my website joomla CMS system and due to other business activities I was not yet able to publish my notes how to install the OPL emulator on a modern netbook (XP or linux) machine. However, I will try to finish this in the coming week and will let you know in this digest where you can see this and obtain these files.

Best regards,

Jaap Laméris
