After many tries I finally got the eee machine to dump its settings and return to its factory settings.  It works great and I'm back to being happy with Linux and looking forward to the Sharp machine when it comes out.

The eee machine is fine as long as you are not trying to install something other than its built in offerings. Will take my machine with me when I visit my step-son on the east coast and between us will solve the Scribus problem (how to download and install).  He's my Linux guru and has been pushing me to switch over.

Attn Craig Price

Out of interest I am using a Keyspan converter RS232 to USB which worked straight out of the packet.

A Google search should locate a source.

Thanks.  Excellent advise for now.  Was loving the machine then got
very upset when I lost my web access after an update.  For now will leave it alone as I am not a power user

Will save your email address for when I tackle it again.

Will give this a try - for now will follow your leads for some on line reading.

My problem is I don't understand repositories etc.

As much as I would love compatibility, I wand to try Scribus as
Publisher is the only program I use that isn't handled in Linux.  If I
can solve that problem, I will be able to move over to Linux on my
office machine.

I publish a 72 page digest sized poetry magazine.  Publisher gives me
camera ready copy that makes collating etc automatic.  I just load it
with my word files and it does the work.  Want to get Scribus running
on my eee to sort it out.

Will hold these messages and if I haven't solved problems by May of
next year, will be on the east coast spending time with family.  My
step son will help me sort it out.
