Thanks Jim,
I have as you might or might not remember from my earlier postings a Eee PC 900.  I have been using it in the Easy Mode as I think many of those things in Wikipedia are hard to understand.  I never had problems with any of my Psion's or my Nokia devices but I would get very frustrated with Xandros and not being able to do anything.  I got to the point of thinking about having it changed to Windows XP and even got a price on it.

I already sent for the Ubuntu disk have on occasion used it in my DVD player and see what Ubuntu looked like.  It looked pretty good but was afraid if I installed it, it might mess something up.  But then I thought if I am thinking about going to XP why not put Ubuntu on and see what happens.

I installed Ubuntu last night so far the feel and look at great and easy to use. Reading your post the other day, and I didn't look at who it was from until your post this morning, I thought about Ubuntu again.

It even has the latest Open Office on it and it is compatible with my Office 2007.
I feel much more comfortable with it installed.  I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed.

I have an extra disk if you need one.

Thanks,
Bob Rudolph

I have played with several different Linux distributions on both the eeePC and HP MiniNote. (I ran eeXubuntu on my eee for awhile and that took a *lot* of tinkering but its been improved a lot now so I expect its much easier to install and setup).

Im now running Xubuntu on my HP MiniNote and everything just works. I had to download a driver for my wireless card but that involved simply installing the fw-cutter package.

Ubuntu is a very popular distribution so its got a lot of support which is why moving to something based on Ubuntu is a good move.

Just think of a repo as a web site where software packages are installed. The package management tools download indices from each repo when you do
an update. There are several different kinds of repos - some might be used to house test versions of packages or packages that are under development (which is why you see some marked as "stable" or "devel", etc).

I see Scribus is available as a standard package in Ubuntu and Ubuntu-derived distributions. So if you're running eeeBuntu, you should be able to simply startup the package manager and install it.

Congratulations on your bargain. Please have a look into our FAQ: http://www.pulster.de/info/psion/netbookpro/netbookpro-faq.htm
JFI, I'm Chris from Psion Shop pulster.de - we sold the Netbook PRO from
the very beginning. So we still stock units, spare parts and
accessories. We sell some nice refurbished english Netbook PRO units one
for 99 eur only.

We are also still active with Psion Series 3, 5 and other Psion
products. Also I am frequently reading this list.
So please allow me this little bit of self-advertisment :-)

Chris
