Question for Hugh:

What are the proposed prices of this 'new 5mx?'

From what I can work out there appears to be a Win XP version, a Linux version, and possibly one of those two with a 3G phone in it? Can you confirm, thanks

Steve

It's nice that there are still hardware producers that understand just how good Agenda was. I miss it terribly.

I have lately been using the HTC G1 ("the google phone") and I have to say that the keyboard/screen are almost as useful as my Psion was. The calendar program stinks, but I have hopes that Pimlico will port their Pimlical, which is inspired by Agenda, in short order.

I'm also quite uncomfortable with the restriction that backup/sync
is only done with Google ... I'mafraid that I just don't trust them. But that looks to be changing soon, too.

Hi all,

just wishing to express my joy at reading this thread - and wish Paul, POS and David Potter the best of success! Looking forward to it. I still think the MX5 is the smartest machine I've worked with - in many ways smarter than Macs... and just as pretty :-)

best to all,

Brilliant that it's going to be offered both in Windoz and Linux.  Two major markets covered.

Let's hope Psion goes forward to the front off the line where it was and where it belongs.

I want one with Linux.

Regarding "Jim Watson-Gove: ...keeping my three 5mx working"

|(one currently is down with the cable disease).

I sent you one of those in exchange for an AlPhaSmart Dana when my last5mx's screen died a month after warranty.  In disgust I left Psionsafter using 3As upwards since 1996!

|Now I'm thinking about the terrific form factor of the Psion 5mx.

I came back in August 2008 after 4 years of using a Fujitzu P1120 w/ an8.3" screen & XP pro.  (The Dana experiment only lasted a year. Couldnot multitask well & battery life was poor.)  I just loved the 5mxAgenda, Contacts, data, & most of all: Instant on & multitasking.

I bought 3 on UK ebay.  One was junk. The other 2 (one a MC218) arestill working.

|Now I'm thinking of hanging in, perhaps sending my dead 5mx to POS for|repair, get over my fear of PayPal (POS doesn't accept USA VISA).

I stand by Paul Wright's www.psionflexi.co.uk/home.htm @ 55 GPD.  Heclaims to enginnered a ribbon without the holes that cause the breakage. But he insists on PayPal for those of us on this side of the pond ...but you must add the continent to that.  Remember ebay owns PayPal now.It is lock solid secure!

|I can live with the drastically reduced battery time.

That is what I am happy to NOT have to live with now that I am back tothe 5mx.  One week on rechargeable Energizer NHHs.
|
|The one thing that is like the elephant in the living room - everyone|knows it's there but no-one is talking about it, is the b---
|- screen cable.

Paul offers a one year warranty on his improved model & I am
hoping for at least 2 years or more.

Hi Hugh,,

If you are getting one soon than please do keep us updated in this
digest how you get along with it and how well or not it compares to the
5MX.

It does sound really exiting.

Best regards,

Itamar

This 'new psion' would seem to be a rebadged chinese made pda also sold badged as a EKING and elsewhere as Digicube.

So did Paul actually design it?
