Arjen,

Its great to hear from you.  Your excellent iDesk is still running every day on my 9300i.  Its really hard to beat.

It would be great if you were able to sort out this bug in the OPL runtime.

Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year

Best wishes,
Martin O'Neill

Hi Martin

Still around but mostly lurking. I haven't worked on the runtime in
over two years, since switching to an E90 and subsequently to an
iPhone. Between family and work there's not much time left to spend
hobbying on OPL, but if there's a bug in the runtime it needs to be
fixed. I'll check it out over the holidays and get back to you on this
issue as quickly as possible. Luckily I still have a 9500 to test
things with, but I need to get the development environment up and
running again.

*  WOW !  I had no idea of Edo and his work on Psions. It is indeed *  truly amazing how he continues this work for the Psion community. How *  big and active is the Dutch Psion community ?

Hello Itamar,

Not so big anymore. My newsletter dbase contains 110 addresses.
The last meeting (26 September 2009) we got around 30 visitors.
But there a lot of old PDATotaal members who use there Psion every day, but I don't have an idea how big this group is.

Regards,

Kees.

@ Itamar:

It's always the same story.
The Psion Agenda was, is and will be the best Agenda.

Regards,

Kees.

Dear all

Firstly, Thanks for your advice

I wish I Could update you with some news about my recovery trials

Before actually reading Your hints I downloaded from the internet an app called filerecovery.zip Which is from a company based in mississauga, Ontario (canada) Which is called LG soft

the free "demo-version" allowed to recover some of the files but the majority remained unreacheable.

It was curious to See That the cf Could be read again by the netBook after this attempt

By looking at the free space on the CF, about 150 MB out of 2GB, i Could understand that the files were still there even if mostly unreacheable.

Only three folders Could be Seen. The rest seemed to be hidden

I hope that by using this filerecovery.zip file i did not do some damage.

Then the digest with all Your comments arrived

BTW, after reading That issue of the digest i was intrigued by the possibility of using the EDU.zip file from PScience5.net

So i tried checkdisk and Pls have a look at the results:

-------------------------------------------------------------

1) The directory contains bad entries.

At this stage, you cannot access any of these directory entries.

CheckDisk repairs the problem by removing the damaged directory entries, and by later recovering them as root directory entries.

2) Found 22770 lost clusters in 12447 chains.

Although the clusters are not currently associated with files or directories, they contain data that was once part of one or more files or directories.

In many cases, this data is left over from previously deleted files and can be safely deleted, especially if the number of lost clusters is equal to the number of lost chains.

CheckDisk repairs this problem by saving these lost clusters as root directory entries with filenames such as FILE0000.CHK or DIR00000.CHK.

After CheckDisk saves these lost clusters in the root directory, just delete the recovered files and directories that don't seem to contain useful
------------------------------------------------------------

Then i simply copied the entire content of a DIR.CHK That was highlighted by the checkdisk operation into a new CF and started looking into the directory

The content i copied was about 500 MB so still a minor part of the original one

I found many files That i Could actually open but they are still a minority. FYI many files.CHK are not recognized and associated to epoc apps.

A few data files cannot be opened since you get an "unexpected end of data" error

i did not go any further then as i wanted to exchange some ideas with you all

What would you do if you were me

A-plan: use check disk and repair What is repairable

B-plan: send the CF to LG soft in order to "reverse" the content to its original corrupt/faulty status and then work on it with checkdisk from the EDU suite

Thanks in advance for sharing Your kind ideas and thoughts

Gianluca Gallino
