due to lax backup policies, I am having to reinstall a lot of software on my netBook after an involuntary reset. I read somewhere that it is best to keep some things on compact flash and and others in internal memory. But after searching, I cannot find anything referring to this. Does anyone having an insights into this?
BTW, I took the opportunity to dissemble the netBook and try to firm up the screencable connection. There was a great post by Thomas van der Zijden that helped flesh out the process. It was posted here on July 4, 2007.

Hello Brian,
Remove the C:\system\apps\shell\shell.ini file.
Close the emulator and restart it, then I think it works right (I hope).
Success

Remember its emulating a machine that is never switched off (switching 'off' a Psion merely puts parts of it into a sleep state, the OS is still 'running').
So shutting down the emulator is like removing all the batteries and shutting down a machine. And like a hard reset, you will lose
all your settings because the OS is no longer running.
Really its a testing tool for development purposes only - can't really use it as a full Psion replacmennt.
Aj.

Sorry no, it's c. 650 eur retail-price, no comunity, unknown small
manufactorer, I don't give this device any chance on market.

Hi Chris,
As a CF card has a limited write cycles it is advisable to install more static files like programs on it - and also files that doesn't get updated all the time.
User files that you edit and change all the time should be placed on the internal drive. From here you can back them up into new folders each time, e.g. "Backup 2010.01.11" or whatever you like.
Also note that files and programs stored in RAM are much faster than when they are stored on CF card.
Of course there are no strict rules, as one can do whatever he want, but following the above will ensure a long lifetime og the CF card.
BTW, the CF card in my S7 is more than 10 years old and it still runs well.
Best regards,
