Basically, its Linux.

You also have an onscreen keyboard, a larger onscreen finger keyboard and rudimentary handwriting input. So it has lots of input options. I have also successfully used a small portable Bluetooth keyboard with the N810 (Apple's small aluminum keyboard is nice and portable).

Yep, agreed.

Also true, but see my comments later.

As Ive mentioned here before, Ive owned the 770, N800 and N810 so Ive seen this platform slowly develop and evolve - each machine gets better. I
firmly believe, the new N900 is a great contender for Psion replacement (it also fixes a lot of the shortcomings of the N810). At some point I
will be upgrading to the N900 myself.

HARDWARE:
The N900 uses OMAP3 hardware so it has an ARM9 core CPU and a separate graphics CPU (same architecture as iPhone and Palm Pre) so its much better
at handling graphics and audio. Having 256Mb RAM helps a lot too. It also adds some really neat features such as an IR transmitter (can be used as a remote!); stereo bluetooth support (Im assuming its A2DP profile); 32Gb internal flash storage (you can add a 16Gb microSDHC card for a total of
48Gb); 5Mb camera with Karl Zeiss lens and automatic geotagging; TV output so you can view stuff on a large screen.

SOFTWARE:
I believe the contacts app on the N900 can integrate with various online services such as GMail contacts, Facebook, via an additional plugin. VOIP
is integrated such that you can use Skype, Google Talk, etc to make calls from contacts; There is also an intergrated calendar app (Im not sure what
it syncs with - but

There is a very active developer community which Im hoping to join in the next few months!

Re.: unique Psion feature - Hi Cyril, I also have an Ipod Touch but I can't compare it at all to a Psion 5MX. I can't see how it can be a true PDA, it is more a music, video and games machine with email, contacts and a diary on it as well. I find the input cumbersome and it would be greatly enhanced if one could use an external keyboard. It is great for some things but for me definitely not a Psion replacement.

Best regards,

Itamar

Re.: Where to keep data and where to install programs - We always used to see to keep programs on the internal disk as they will start faster while putting datda on the external disk as it will not crash when the netBook crashes. Also, working with the external disk takes more battery life and with data the usage of the disk is minimal. I note that this is opposite to what Michael answered you :-)
It has been said many time and again, always back up your data en programs REGULARLY. Make it a habit to do it for example the same day of the week each time or even set a program like Crontab to do it automatically when you are a sleep at 4 in the morning or something like that.

Best regards,

Itamar

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I have never tried a N810 but I like the idea of having a Linux handheld as well.

As for the agenda: what I use most is old fashioned entries, to-dos, birthdays and anniversaries, is GPE ok for that? I don´t even use the different other features of Agenda in my Psions.

Can you for example call up GPE contacts to receive email adresses when you write an email or do You have to do it some other way, for example copy the address and paste it in the email application?

How about the battery life on one charge?

I don´t care much about the support, as long as there are enough programs to try and a good community.

I like the N900 a lot, but 550 EUR is too much right now............

Thanks a lot: Balazs

Subject: How to clean Netbook touchscreen?

Hi,

Which is the best way to clean the touchscreen of a Netbook from dust, dirt? Can I use some spray or is it better dry?

Thanks: Balazs (from Austria)
