Hi Balazs
As Aj has mentioned, the N900 is a far more capable NIT (Nokia Internet
Table)
- but as you noted it is far more expensive.
re the N810: I can answer some but not all of your questions:
Battery life is pretty good, you can go a whole day with fairly
intensive use.
- You lock the screen rather than switching it off, and this puts it to
sleep.
GPE : I havn't used it recently (I tested ages ago and decided it was
basically OK but not for me)
Email: the inbuilt email client can easily be configured to connect to
an email provider
Contacts: the inbuilt Email uses the inbuilt Contacts and integrates
well with it BUT . .
- BUT there appears to be no easy way to import contacts & email
addresses into the inbuilt Contacts/
Skype and Gizmo VOIP are supported on the N810
- voice is easy, getting video to work is harder, it has been done by
some but not by me.
- Skype does not do video, Gizmo does.
I have not installed the any other Linux pack, as I am a very much a
newbie to Linux.
A good Nokia Internet Table Forum is Internet Table Talk:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/- Check the Software page (OS2008) and the Wiki
- The hot topic is the N900 but there is a lot of older info on the N810
(& earlier tablets).

If you know linux (or want to know linux) then there is a lot to like in
the N810.
- just don't expect it to be a (good) PIM.
Now I have typed all that, I will indulge myself with one rant at Nokia:
I feel quite let down that I paid (Nokia) nearly £300 for a device that
has never been finished . .
- I didn't mind it that it was a work in progress
- What I mind is that Nokia have walked away from the N810 and have not
made it as good as it could be.
If Nokia invested time and effort in the N810 it could still be a lot
better:
- it could do VOIP video out of the box, it could import contacts and
other information from social sites, it could have an integrated PIM, it
could play flash web pages without seizing up (well maybe :-)
My warning is that the new N900 is also a work in progress, and since
Nokia have never developed the N770, N800 & N810 to thier full
potential, will the N900 fair any better ?
- particulery as Nokia are already working on an N910 !
Now please don't flame me for the above - it a personal view only :-)

Dear all,
being a glasses-wearer, I have always cleaned my Psion/laptop/mobile phone
screens using either the pre-moistened wipes for cleaning spectacles or
the bottles of liquid sold for the same purpose; to dry the screen I
always use a soft cloth, usually the ones you get from opticians. I
figured that if it's good enough/safe enough for my expensive glasses, it
should be OK for my expensive toys....

Hello everybody,
Does anyone already have experiences with the new generation mini-mini-netbooks, the size of a 5mx, such as a Sagem Spiga or the Linux device "Netwalker" ?
It sounds tempting to have a full PC in your pocket, but the lack of instant-on and the small capacity of their batteries may be disappointing to a Psionist.
As far as the agenda/PIM problems go: the Sagem Spiga runs XP, so you could use Outlook, which actually comes rather close to the Psions agenda.
Yours sincerely,
Thomas van der Zijden
Hi Balazs and Trygve,
I never use any liquids on any screens. I breathe onto the screen and
than wipe it clean with a cloth, usually my (clean) T-shirt or the
sheets on my bed.
Bye,
Itamar
Hi Balazs,
My experience is that the phones don't have enough memory for VOIP to
work properly. I tried Skype on my phone at it worked very
intermittently, I constantly had to wait to hear the voice at the other
end or I could only hear part of a sentence. I gave up on it but maybe
other programs are better or other users here have got better results.
Would love to hear how I could improve on this.
Bye,
Itamar

Yes, both Skype and Gizmo are available. I have used Gizmo from Spain to call New York without any problems.

No.
There is a community project called Mer, to bring a Debian-based
distro to the N800/N810 but I haven't played with that.

There is maemo.org where there is a lot of community info, downloads, forums, mailing lists, etc.
Yes, the N900 is expensive (always is when its just been released a few months ago), but prices do drop. Even new, Ive seen big discounts (e.g. those that pre-ordered the N900 paid about $650 (unlocked) but I saw the price around $500 on some online retailers back in November/December).
Aj.
