Well, I feel the N810 hardware is really underpowered for heavy multimedia - I dont play video or audio. I do use it for web surfing, reading RSS feeds, and connecting to my servers via the terminal. I also use the PDF viewer and have a huge collection of books on a 16Gb card. For these kinds of uses it is an excellent device.

The N900 hardware is much more capable (basically same as iPhone or Palm Pre), its good for video/audio and so integrating VOIP makes sense there.

The hardware is OMAP3 and I believe the next generation will be OMAP4 (even better) so audio/video performance should be fantastic. I should
also point out that the panoramic desktop and windows on the N900 is generated using OpenGL so it has beautiful effects like a Mac, but you
need good hardware to do all that rendering, so you'll never see it in the N810 since it lacks the hardware.

Its basically the way with new classes of products, that the niver hardware gets cheaper, and the better hardware opens new possibilities
not possible with the old hardware. Also part of this evolution is a learning process for customers and Nokia alike. I dont resent them for it, Im happy the devices have a market and will continue to be improved upon instead of quietly disappearing.

Dear Mike, Aj, Itamar, and all the others!

Thanks for the good advices, I think I will just wait and see what the new N900 can really do, and if it gets cheaper by time or my mobile provider will give me one for less than what it costs right now. Until then I will stick to my great Psions (Netbook and 5mx Pro, MC218).

Until then I am learning better Linux on my Asus EeePc.

Greetings from Austria: Balazs

Hi Thomas,

There are a few people who are already using (and compiling software, etc.) on the new Sharp Netwalkers. If you know some German, they are found on the forums of:

www.linuxontour.de

Some of them are Ex-Psionists, for example the guy from whom I bought my Psion Netbook some time ago.

Basically they like the device, but it is not a PDA, it´s a mini linux computer running Ubuntu with some limitations on the hardware side as well: no bluetooth, etc.

But check it out: There is some discussion already going on!

Greetings: Balazs

From my first 3a and all my other 9 Psions, I've only used a clean
tissue paper and no chemicals.

I just put part of the screen close to my mouth and say 'arrrrgh'.
Then wipe that part of the screen.  That's all the moisture that's
needed.

Hi Balazs,

I use the same cleaning gel that I use to clean my TFT monitors.  It's by Philips called "Screen cleaner for plasma & LCD", product code SVC2540/27.

Re.: Nokia N900 - ... and it has got a touch screen as well. However, what are the word processing and spreadsheet functions like ?  Are there others with similar or different opinions about the N900 in our community ?  What is the OS ?

Can't you get the N900 with a renewal of your contract ?

Best regards,

Re.: Where to keep data and where to install programs,  - Fine by me but in my humble opinion it does not make sense as you constantly write to the external disk which costs a lot more battery life and when batteries are towards the end writing to the external disk might fail. From the time I had my S3 and onwards this was discussed many a time and the advice was always to put programs on the external disk and data on the internal, backing the data up to the external.

Best regards,

Itamar

Subject: PsiXpda cost

My first Psion was the 3A and have bought new on all of them except the NBook (bought an MBook instead).

Now that I'm salivating on the psiXpda and thinking that $600 is a bit over the top, I wonder if anyone out there has a better memory than me.

What was the cost of the 3A new?

The 5?

The 5MX?

The Netbook?

Any word from those who have purchased early (Beta Testers?)?
