All,
Ignore last post!! I stuck a torch into the PC card slot to see if I had the right card with the right pins with the right...you know how it goes.....
Anyway, long story short, my laptop has PC Card slot, only thing is, the pin array inside is clearly designed for something other than a PC/PCMCIA card. God knows what?!
The port has a square block (approx 15x15mm) down its right hand side (some kind of offset spacer?), and the pin array seems to be a single line of 26 pins biased to the left hand side of the post.
Any clues what card this takes? Thanks again.
regards
Peter
Greetings!

Eh...
I'm not certain if I found your model on Toshiba's site, but I believe that your machine has an ExpressCard connector, not PCMCIA/PC-Card/CardBus type card.
Check your manual. If you have an ExpressCard 34/54 connector, a PCMCIA card won't work.
(Feel free to check the device manager, hidden somewhere in the control panel for devices without drivers, or Computer manager for disks with no drive letter)
Also, unless you have really weird Vista install, the drivers should already be in it.
You may be better off looking for a compact USB-CF adapter.

Its curious, I dont see it listed here either:
http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-n900/specifications
However, it IS mentioned on the wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N900
Moreover, there is a remote control package for it already and it is
mentioned on the blog page for that software:
http://irreco.garage.maemo.org/
where it states:
"Maemo 5 version of Irreco for Nokia N900 is now available in extras-devel repository. The new Fremantle port takes advantage of N900's internal IR transmitter."
So Im guessing its something Nokia decided not to include on their specs
pages perhaps?

My Psion S7 cost about $800 when new. Considering the amount of functionality these newer devices have over the old Psions and the fact that they are cheaper, this means you are actually getting much more bang for your buck than ever before.
(This is a response to people saying how expensive these new gadgets are, I would actually say they are cheaper).

Peter as we both live in the UK, you will be aware of the school examination results being higher every year, yet their ability
understand things is getting worse.
As they can't remember the six letters of PCMCIA or understand what it
is, it's now called a PC Card. Simple !

Has anyone else moved to the NOKIA N97 ?
I was desappointed not to be able to use OPL applications on the phone. I'm looking for a way to port applications from the PSION ( OPL and OPXs) to the latest symbian enviromnent (S60 R5)
Nokia's website is not very helpful for that matter.
Any help welcome.
Hello Peter,
I think I can answer both your questions here !
Firstly, "PCMCIA" is the old name for the "PC Card Adaptor", they are absolutely identical, it is just a name change !
Secondly, regarding your laptop not seeing the CompactFlash card, that has me puzzled !
I have 3 laptops, an old(er) HP Pavilion (2006), and a newish Acer (early 2009) and a top of the range Sony VAIO (late 2009) and I also have a "SanDisk CompactFlash PC Card Adaptor", and the adaptor works fine in all three.
I have tried 1GB, 2GB and 4GB cards too and they all work fine ... you DO NOT need any drivers for the adaptor, but I ONLY use genuine SanDisk cards by the way, because unfortunately there are a lot of fakes out there.. and also fake adaptors too.
I did get a fake adaptor from Amazon of all places (it was their 'Market Place' and NOT Amazon itself I must point out), but I
returned it and got a (partial) refund.
It was REALLY obvious it wasn't a genuine SanDisk item, the metal it was made of was 'rough' and even the label wasn't stuck on straight, plus no packaging, just loose in a Jiffy bag !
I have bought 99% of my SanDisk cards (CF, SD, SDHC, micro SD) from the same place now for years now, and I always register them on the SanDisk site too, that way it will say of they are a fake.
I never buy from a big online auction site now, since I found out that 90% of the ones I have bought over the years were fake and I didn't save that much... I am not knocking that site as I LOVE it and buy lots of stuff from it... just NEVER memory cards now.
If anyone wants to know where I buy all my GENUINE SanDisk cards from, just email me and I will tell all !
Just for your information, the HP is using Windows XP and the Acer and Sony are using Windows Vista.
Hope this is of some help to you !
Regards,
Steve
