Subject: SySetSoundEnabled on 9300/9500 bad news

I've been trying to get SySetSoundEnabled from System.opx to work on
Nokia 9300/9500 devices.

Unfortunately the API that offered this functionality on ER5
(sytemHal) is stripped down considerably in the S80 SDK, since sound
output is now governed by profiles. To make matters worse, the profile
API is also not public in the S80 SDK, making it virtually impossible
to implement the wanted functionality.

I've been experimenting with several low level audio API's that are
supposed to be able to provide this functionality, but everything
seems to be working only for the application that utilizes the API.
Global sound on/off just doesn't work.

In other words, I'm simply not able to give the stub-function in
System.opx for this function a working implementation. I'll keep
trying to find a solution and ask some of the other guys who worked on
the S80 port of OPL if they have any other bright ideas, but for the
moment the stub sadly will remain a stub.

Best regards

Arjen

Subject: Contacts

All,

Thanks for the heads up regarding the superceded PCMCIA card clot, now an PCI Express slot. So more kit to gather dust...Ebay here I come.

Meantime, I had to reset my NBook as the R/W to the CF card stalled and I couldn't soft reset the machine. After much cool, calm thinking (!) I hard reset the machine.

As usual, all my back up files were restored from the card; but, as usual, the Contacts app didn't as the C:System/Apps/Data/Contacts.cdb file becomes unrecognised. So I now have to unscramble the data from the old .cdb file open in Editor; and start all over again.

I've done this once before several years ago; mea culpa.

Q. Is there a decent replacement Contacts app (or plug-in) for the NB and 5mx that can restore itself from a remote data source after a hard reset?

Sadly, I can't trust the Psion onboard app any more.

Thanks

Peter

*  I use ABP5 on my Psions (5mx, 7 ,nB) and the file size is now 348K. *  I've never exported or split files as I have no need.
*  Am I getting close to maximum size?

Hello Alan,

I wrote a mail to Malcolm Bryant the author of the program.
When I get his answer I'll mail it to The Digest.

Regards,
Kees.

Below you can read Malcolms' answer, about the ABP-file size.

Regards,
Kees.

It's hard to know.  There's no maximum size as such, but you could hit a limit unexpectedly or find that the program's performance is slowing down.  I would advise that you use the Split Files function at some point, or export the
data.  At the very least, please ensure that you have good back-ups :-)

Best regards,
Malcolm

Hi Alan,
I use ABP5 on my Nokia 9500. To avoid, that the size becomes to big, I'm creating new files for each year by splitting and I'm storing at the PC.
