Sygic have sent their sat nav app to nokia for approval but they are still
waiting. Its been over 6 weeks and since then nokia have announced the free
OVI Maps for certain devices of which may come to the n900.
The Ovi Maps that is included with the N900 is more akin to google maps w/o
the navigation. It does route but it is not very good as a car based sat
nav.
I have found the calendar to be okay as a simple diary. i mainly use mine
with an exchange account (as I have other devices) but it lacks calendar
reminders over 1 day, will not accept recurring appointments (like android)
that have a begin date before 2000. For example with the psion calendar you
could put when an appointment began such as birthday so it was good for
tracking how old someone was. It has a task manager that integrates with
the calendar so might be sufficient for you. If you can recall when people
moved from the communicator to the s60 based calendar on the e90 and there
was complaints about it being weak. If you like the s60 calendar and use it
for simple appointments then you should be okay.
Meego looks interesting but it does beg the question where is maemo now
going. Effectively I have bought an expensive device that is merged with
another platform. Whilst in principle it is a good thing I am worried about
being left out in the cold again through making a decision to purchase too
early.

The form factor of the n900 is great and the touch screen gestures whilst
browsing do help. I haven't seen the sharp netwalker, but I believe in 2010
we will see a whole batch of similar devices so there will be a good choice.
I am interested in getting a tablet based on android (i had the archos 5
but sent it back due to instability) such as the dell mini 5 as I want a
device bigger than the n900 but smaller than netbook. After using the
archos and installing android software to extend its capability it had a lot
of potential as media consumption device in a similar vain to the ipad.
But I have to admit having the n900 and should it become more optimised and
gain more rich applications I may avoid getting another device. After using
the n900 and going back to a smartphone, whilst the latter has more
applications you can really feel the flexibility and potential the device
has. After seeing this via twitter
http://dailymobile.se/2010/02/21/ubuntu-mobile-9-04-running-on-the-nokia-n900/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter once
thenext firmware is released i would like to install mer onto the machine
subject to finding instructions.
If you have any further questions then please ask.
