My son's Ipod was stolen so he needed a new one. I decided to sell him my iPod touch 1G and buy myhself a new 3G, two happy people :-).
The main advantage is that I can now, with the help of a little external microphone that i bought as well, record lessons that I attend to enable me to go over certain parts again if I did not understand them completely. The mian disadvantage is that it will not charge anymore when connected to my PC at home but it might well be a problem on my PC with the USB ports. Furthermore it has a small loudspeaker so you can hear sounds when playing games. I have a lot of free programs on it and some I bought as well. I now also installed skype and tonight tested the chat function which worked absolutely fine. It is so brilliant, just like the Psions, to have a machine that just starts with the push of a button instead of having to start up like PC's. So what are the main programs I use on it ?
- Calendar : rather basic but enough for my needs. I synchronise it via Outlook on my laptop with the Agendus program on my phone, works very well.
- Mail : I can receive both my work and my home emails, great to check in the evening quickly whether something important arrived or not
- Contacts : It has got all my contacts. Some time ago I used ABClight to create groups in the contacts but stopped that again
- Notes : to keep some important and unimportant details
- Shopshop : Very handy when I do shopping, crossing off the list while walking around the store
Spb wallet : for my sensative and secret information.
- Sidur : the Jewish prayer book, for times when the books themselves are not around (airport lounges for example)
iFooty : keeps me up to date with the info on the main clubs
- RAC : Traffic information before you drive off. It is very nice with a map of the UK. You choose the area and you get all the problems known and when you click on a problem you get all the details
- Met Office : all the weather details for the UK in a variety of outputs
- Games : I bought Bridge, play also HarborMaster, iBomber, CM2010, Blackjack, Monopoly and Tank Raider
- News : The news sites of SKynews, ITN, BBCand NY Times, TV guides
I choose on purpose for the iPod Touch and not the iPhone. I want to be able to have a small computer with me without a phone, and at other times a phone without a computer. I am not a believer of an "all in one" machine.
Bye,
Itamar
Best regards,
Itamar
