I was surprised to read that Itamar had a HTC HD2 with WM6. I thought I was
the only one willing to go Psion-Communicator-Dark Side.

Even before Psion, my background was Windows CE, so coming to WinMo wasn't a
long step. That said, the stock WinMo is dreadful in my opinion.

Nonetheless, since I knew I wouldn't be able to afford an E7 any time soon,
last month, I bought a new HTC Touch Pro 2. Steven Litchfield's excellent
comparison:

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/Nokia_E90_vs_Nokia_N97_mini_vs_HTC_Touch_Pro_2_vs_Motorola_Milestone_.php

didn't daunt me, if only becauseof the incredible hacking of the WM6.53 ROM
over at xda-developers:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773

I've gotten to that party late, so the WM ROMs' continuous improvements are
subtle (all the hard work was done last year), and I am thoroughly enjoying
myself. I find the Touch Pro 2's keyboard much better than my E90's and the
endless WinMo tweaking available will keep users entertained for as long as
they want.

Psion users may even find a use for WinMo: SoftMaker Office. It's the
answer to Psion Word (but far better than even that great program), and not
since ER5 can users do true word processing. Adios to the flimsy
QuickOffice, Docs-to-Go, etc.

To reiterate, the stock WinMo is problematic, to say the least, and even the
custom ROMs can't solve all of WinMo's problems, but the ROMs can solve
many, the ROMs present intrigue and challenge, and with the plummeting price
of the Touch Pro 2 (originally new, unlocked for $799USD, now new for
$225), people can have fun with a phone while waiting for the Next Great
Thing. Obviously WinMo is much more hackable than anything Symbian.

In no way do I mean to disparage anybody's Symbian OS, and if I had the
money, I would've gone for the E7, despite Symbian's suddenly uncertain
approach to things.

Subject: The Death of Nokia

Yesterday, I popped into my local 3 shop as I had to wait for my wife
to have her hair done. I use one of their Mi-Fi devices (E5830) for
all my broadband connections, having given up my land line at home.

I knew that they had introduced a new device to replace mine and as
the shop was lacking other customers, I had a long chat with the
manager. (And yes, I'm upgrading my device at the end of the month).

Included in the chat was about using my 5mx and Nokia 6210 for
internet use, in the past. I suggested that the recent changes was
the beginning of the end of Nokia and he agreed.

Fortunately my various Psions still work and don't need updating regularly.

So a possible new device to replace our Psions retreats further.
